All things Shopify and commerce
I am trying to set up 2 shipping profiles - one that is free shipping over $75, and another that contains a small number of certain large and/or heavy items that will not be included in free shipping. We'll call them Free Shipping Profile & General Profile.
The first issue I am encountering is that, in creating the Free Shipping Profile, I am unable to add a Calculated Rate for orders under $75. Is this not an option? I added a Flat Rate using conditional pricing for $75+. But for Calculated Rates, it looks like there isn't any conditional pricing field. Are you forced to use Flat Rate shipping for carts that don't meet your free shipping threshold? If I test out a cart with items from the Free Shipping Profile, but that total less than $75, it does come up with a shipping fee somehow - even if the only shipping rate added to the profile is a Flat Rate of $0 for carts over $75. If I add a second rate that's a USPS Calculated Rate (no conditional pricing), the shipping it comes up with is similar but not exactly the same.
The second problem is that it doesn't combine correctly if there are items from both profiles in the cart. My understanding is that it should total the lowest available rate from each profile. But, if I have just one example item from the General Profile (that does not ship free), my shipping charge is $4. If I have $75+ of free shipping items, the shipping charge is $0. But if I have both in the cart, suddenly the shipping charge is $10. Why is this happening? Shouldn't it be $0 + $4 = $4??? Shopify support was no help in resolving this. Thanks for any advice!
Hi @danita - With multiple shipping profiles such issues do pop up now and then. Since you have a defined use case I recommend trying a shipping management solution that can offer more flexibility to your shipping configuration. You can take a free trial of ShipperHQ and set up your requirements easily to test the rates.
Hi Danita,
Can you please post screenshots of your shipping profile? While the first issue (calculated rates with condition) is not solvable in Shopify natively (our app ShipMagic can solve this on the Starter plan), the second issue should be possible in Shopify. If you can post your screenshots, I can have a look at it and try to help you out.
Thank you! Right now the shipping profiles are named General which is what we started with, and Free Shipping Profile Testing while we tried to make sure it would work. Here's how they look, with the General having the USPS calculated rates, and the Free just containing one test item with the conditional rate.
