I am wanting to create custom shipping rules for different products we sell. After trying a few of the apps suggested previously, I am unable to find any that will allow us to create custom shipping rules without fully enabling Carrier Calculated Shipping. Does anyone have any suggestions for a work around or an app that will allow me to create different shipping rules that can apply in checkout so we are not loosing on shipping costs?

Hi @Adina121,

Custom shipping rules in Shopify can be tricky without enabling Carrier Calculated Shipping (CCS), but here are some workarounds and app recommendations:

Workarounds Without CCS:

  1. Shopify Shipping Profiles:

    • Go to Settings → Shipping and Delivery and create Custom Shipping Profiles for different product groups.
    • Assign specific products to each profile with different rates.
    • This works well if you have different rates based on product type or location.
  2. Flat Rate & Weight-Based Shipping:

    • If your shipping costs vary by product, set weight-based or price-based rates in your general profile.
    • You can assign specific weights to products to "trick" Shopify into charging different shipping rates.
  3. Using Third-Party Apps with Workarounds:

    • Some apps allow you to set custom rules without CCS by using order tags or customer tags.

Apps That May Work Without CCS:

  1. Parcelify (Check their settings for workaround options)
  2. Better Shipping (Allows per-product shipping rates)
  3. Intuitive Shipping (May require CCS but has workarounds for Basic plans)

If none of these work, you may need to enable Carrier Calculated Shipping by:

  • Upgrading to Advanced Shopify
  • Paying an extra $20/month on the Basic or Shopify plan
  • Switching to annual billing, which enables CCS for free
