We sold a few Gift cards through Shopify for Christmas. But how do I deduct a specific amount from a Gift card?
The problem is that we're running a local store and some customers purchased Gift cards online and want to use it in our local shop. We're obviously not using Shopify POS. That's a big pain in the ...
When a customer purchased something locally, how do we adjust the amount in Shopify when using a different POS?
You can't. Gift cards are considered currency, they represent a liability on your business. You can't deduct currency for nothing since that's basically the same as deleting a debt. It would be very nice if our debts could simply be erased, but an exchange of money or products has to happen. Therefore there's no button that lets you do it.
The only real solution is to use Shopify POS. That way everything stays inside of one system and there's no fuss. If not, I guess you can either stop selling Shopify gift cards and sell the gift cards of your existing POS instead, or you can have the customer run the transaction through both systems so it's deducted properly. But I think I'd be pretty annoyed if I was given two iPads to run my gift card through.
I can't edit/change the amount, but I can simply disable them? That sounds like erasing debt. As always, I'll figure out some other way on how to do that or just use an app or just do it like a lot of local businesses, open an excel sheet, write it down there and then stamp some template with a signature. Lmao.
Shopify POS is sadly pretty much unusable in Italy.
