All things Shopify and commerce
I would advise future sellers, and even current sellers to beware that one day you may login just to find out that your payments have been put on hold, and not only your payments.. but the money that has already been paid out to you, is no longer accessible. How is this not theft? If they want to stop accepting payments, that's their choice.. it's their company, they don't have to work with us... they're far from the only company to provide payment processing and a store front. But to think that you're going to hold on to money ALREADY PAID OUT TO US... you've lost your mind.
Shopify Support clearly lied, and said that money that has already been paid out would be available to us still.. and that the hold would NOT affect money already paid out, but that is not the case. We have ZERO REFUNDS... ZERO DISPUTES at the time of the account being put on hold, so what would make it appropriate for them to be holding on to money already paid out to us? This is the reason for the whole "Shopify Balance" account... they want you to keep the money in their account, so they can freeze it anytime they want.. and continue to earn off the interest, while leaving the seller hung to dry. Not only is this unprofessional, but it's nothing short of theft.
Do your own research.. this same thing has happened to both new sellers, as well as seasoned sellers who have been with them for 15 years. The problem isn't even so much the account hold, its the LYING... it's the HOLDING ON TO PEOPLES MONEY THAT HAS ALREADY BEEN PAID OUT.... it's the NOT TELLING THE SELLER WHY THEYRE PLAYING WITH YOUR MONEY.... those are the real problems with this. And I'm going to be extremely vocal about this situation until they correct it. I don't care what they do with the account, we already setup shop somewhere else in less then 12 hours. But what I do care about is the money that has already been paid out to me... I'm not going to allow you, or ANYONE to steal my money. My business is a legal, registered business, with plenty of previous sales history to prove we are legit... so the problem is on Shopifys end. There wouldn't be countless other sellers telling their story about how their money was put on hold randomly, out of nowhere by Shopify all across the internet, if this wasn't a repeated occurrence. Reddit, Quora, YouTube... search anyone of those platforms and find countless stories of sellers going thru samething similar. So while you may think it can't happen to you, don't ever feel that it can't.. as I've read stories right on THIS forum of sellers with 10 years shopify selling history, having their funds put on hold for months, without being given a reason or a date when they can expect a resolution. This is what Shopify thinks is appropriate. Luckily I'm a very vocal person, that just happens to have the funds available to pay a VA to share my story across the Internet. I personally dont have the time to post it all across social media, but I damn sure will pay someone to get the word out... as no seller should have to go thru this, and if I can prevent another unsuspecting seller from going thru the same BS, then I feel I have done my part. Shopify... get your ish together, and stop playing around with peoples money. Playing with another persons money is the LAST thing you should ever be doing as a professional company. Is this bashing Shopify? No. It's sharing a REAL LIFE EXPERIENCE, that I am currently going thru... that many others went thru.
