Shopify Plus and Accountancy Integration

We have recently moved to Shopify and process around 2,500 orders a month plus we have other marketplace integrations.  Currently we use Sage 50 Online.  I hear that Sage50  is not very good from an integration perspective.  Question a) what is the best way to export data from Shopify Plus to Sage 50.  Question B) Does it make more sense to switch accounting packages?

Hi Jonathan003, if you're open to using third-party apps, you can use DataChamp to export your desired data as CSV or Excel files and then import them into Sage 50. The reports are easy to customize to fit your needs. If you need assistance setting it up, feel free to reach out!

Hi Jonathan,

One quick way is to use the DataEase app. Set up an export job that pulls your orders( fields, filters, schedule, etc.) - into a clean CSV file. Then, in Sage 50 you can bring that file straight in with the Import Wizard (Sales > Import Transactions). The wizard lets you map the columns once and reuse the map each time.

With 2,500 orders a month you could automate the export to run daily (or even hourly) and drop the file in a folder that Sage 50 watches, so the hand-off becomes hands-free.

If you need a hand setting up the mapping or choosing the right order fields, just ping me and I can walk you through it.

Yeah, Sage 50 can be tricky when it comes to integrating with Shopify, especially with the online version. It doesn’t have native support, so most people end up using middleware tools or manual exports, which isn’t ideal at the volume you're handling.

For 2,500+ orders a month and marketplaces in the mix, it might honestly be worth looking into something like QuickBooks Online or Xero. They play a lot nicer with Shopify, and syncing tends to be way smoother. Even if you don’t switch right away, automating the accounting flow a bit could save you a lot of time and clean up reporting.

If you're staying with Sage for now, definitely look into some connector tools,  just test them thoroughly. Some merchants get by with custom setups too, depending on how deep the integration needs to be.
