All things Shopify and commerce
Hello;
I withdraw my products from my supplier. I manually change supplier product names one by one. But I noticed an error. When I change the product name, the product url does not change automatically, but the old product name url given by the supplier remains. It's impossible to edit these urls individually. Is there a way to edit them in bulk?
For example;
Supplier url
www.demo.com/products/pink-product
I am changing the product name to make it easier to find.
www.demo.com/products/short-sleeve-pink-product
Can you please help. I have a lot of products, I don't want to fix the url one by one.
When I change my product name, I want the url to automatically change with the product name.

Thank you very much for your support. This is how I solved the problem.
- First of all, I came to products from settings
- I said select all
- Then I said edit in bulk
- I then scrolled down the page until I got to the bottom
- Then I went to the top of the page
- I opened only the product name and url addresses from the filtering section
- Then I hit the Tab key 2 times, delete 1 time, tab key 2 times, and deleted all of them in an accelerated way.
You can take a look into Shopify Flow app functionality to see if it will let you change URL handles, but for now you can use these two methods to change them in bulk:
1. Bulk Edit. Select the products you want to edit & click on Bulk Edit. Add column called URL handle (SEO) and change them.
2. Export to CSV file. Select all the products you want to edit and export them to .csv file to edit them in Excel. Once you are done, import them back in.
With the Excel method you don`t have to do them one by one, actually. You can use formulas that will convert your product name into a suitable handle for you, depending on your needs.

Hi @bitolga,
changing the handles in bulk may be a bit tricky. There are three solutions you can consider to solve the issue.
1. Use bulk edit. You can select products you would like to change the handle for, display the URL Handle (SEO) column, and make changes to the handles there. However, this is more or less still a lot of manual work.
2. CSV export. You can export all products in CSV and use the file to make changes. However, the problem is that whenever you change the product handles (Handle column), the products will be uploaded as new products. This means that you would need to delete the products with the "old" URL handles. However, using CSV for this issue has a huge advantage. Thanks to functions such as CONCATENATE, you can easily get the handles for all of your products. Don't forget to export a back-up of all your products!
3. Use app. I guess that Matrixify could handle the bulk URL handles update. You can check out the features and pricing.
Hope this helps!
Hello @Niki_K
Thank you for suggesting using the Matrixify app.
@bitolga - You sure can use the Matrixify app to bulk update your product Handles and by default, the app will even generate Shopify redirects in your store from old to new product Handles. Here we do have a great tutorial on how to do that with our app - Bulk Update Product URLs by changing Product Handles.
If you have any questions or concerns along the way, reach out to our Support directly.
Note that with our app you can export and import Excel XLSX files. They are a lot more user-friendly than CSV files as well as you sure can use Excel formulas in your file to make any adjustments to the data.
