Shopify Variants not pulled into Google Shopping

Hello,

I have a store with products and different variants (eg. Colors, Size). I used the Google Shopping app to import those into Google Merchant Center and they have all imported successfully - but each variant is imported on its own (and not grouped together). Therefore, in Google Merchant Center, it shows as 4550 products whereas it should be 150 products.

Has anyone faced this issued? Any recommendations on how to resolve it so that these items are not all on their own for each variant - which makes running ads messy (as ads would be ran to each variant instead of product level)?

All variants, must be submitted as a unique listing, that is correct by design yes.

Google will know they are associated variants, by having the same item_group_id value. Reference: https://support.google.com/merchants/answer/6324507

So 4550 sounds correct by design. A variant is a unique product.

So how do you set the group id values automatically?

All data feed apps, should automatically do this for you. If that is not the case, contact the support team of the app you are using.

So to clarify - the default Google integration in Shopify doesn't do this? I need a third party app?

The default shopping app submits variants, with item group id. If that is not the case, contact Shopify support.

You can check your data by going to Google Merchant Center > Products > All Products > click on a product > view the final attributes.

The data is getting uploaded without item_group_id filled in. That means each variant is being listed as a separate item on Google Shopping (Men's T-Shirt / Red / Large is one item, Men's T-Shirt / Red / Medium is another, etc.) I'll contact them. Thank you for your help.

Then most likely your variants are not Shopify defined variants. Only products that are added as an option in Shopify will be variants.

Either change the way you have managed your products, or manually submit a supplement feed with the item group id: https://support.google.com/merchants/answer/7439058?hl=en-GB

The products are standard shopify variants. Each shirt has its own listing and then there are Size, Color etc variants within each listing, but in Google the "item_group_id" field is blank. Can you clarify what might be the issue with the default app here?

I do not know what your issue is. I recommend to further communicate with Shopify support team as they can look into your account. I can not.
