ShopPad no longer compatible with Printful - alternatives?

Is ShopPad no longer being compatible with Printful via Shopify? For quite a while it was working in my store and allowing my customers to add their own customized text on the T-shirt during the ordering process. I'm now told by Printful that they no longer support line-item properties, only variants. Not sure exactly what that means, but has anyone encountered this issue and did you find a workaround with either an alternative to ShopPad or an alternative to Printful?
