Showing Tax on Checkout page

I am in the process of launching my online store in the US, based in Atlanta, GA. I would like to display the tax amount under the product price on the checkout page, with the tax calculated based on the buyers state. However, I am currently only seeing tax amounts applied to GA addresses and not for other states.

I have been told that I need to register in each state separately to enable this, but that doesn’t seem logical, opening an office in every state for an online business doesn’t make much sense. Does anyone have more information or advice on how to set this up correctly?
