Simple Bulk archive products and change title

We have a large product SKU catalog and I need to archive 700 SKUs. Is there a way to do this in bulk as well as changing the product title to state it is discontinued?

Hi @Stacey999,

an app I use quite often is called Bulk Product Edit https://apps.shopify.com/bulk-product-edit and can achieve what you are looking for.

Alternatively, you could do this without an app and use Shopify functionality only.

- Export all of the products that need to be updated, save the CSV file and then import that CSV into Google Sheets or Excel (I suggest hiding the Body(HTML) column for better readability).

- Adjust the Title field to include "Discontinued" (can apply a function here to have Google Sheets do all of the heavy-lifting for you)

- Change the Status column to "archived"

- Leave everything else unchanged, download the CSV file and go back to Shopify to import it, check the box to allow the updated CSV to overwrite current product data (this is why it's important to only change the fields that need to be changed)

Hope this helps!

Thanks

Would I just export from the Product section in Shopify? I ask because when I do that I don't have a "body(HTML)" column.

@Stacey999

Yep! From the Product section in Shopify > select all of the products that need to be adjusted > export your selection

*Make sure you're exporting as "CSV for Excel, Numbers, or other spreadsheet programs" - if you are and you're not seeing the Body(HTML) column - no worries, since you won't be editing that area anyway.

Thanks!

CSV export is definitely the way to go, select all products (make sure to click the blue link to the right as well!)

Once you're in there, if you only export the products that are discontinued, you can semi automate the updated titles, and just make the entire Inventory column all zeros (col R).

I put that formula on a second tab, and drag it down as far as it needs to go, then just copy and paste it over the original as values (Ctrl+V, wait a sec, Ctrl, wait a split sec, V). Then delete the second tab and save as a CSV to re-import. Tip: Save as a new file. If you make a mistake and import it, you have a backup in that original CSV file.

This would work IF the Shopify CSV importer still worked. But it's been broken for months and there seems to be no action to fix it.

Hi Stacey,

My name is Alison, I'm the Customer Success Specialist for Ablestar Apps.  It sounds like you may already have this figured out, but I wanted to mention that our Ablestar Bulk Product Editor app would be another option to accomplish this using a spreadsheet edit.

All you would need is a spreadsheet with three columns, the first being 'SKU', and another for 'status' and then the third being 'title'.  If you already have a list of the SKUs you would not need to export anything from Shopify, just add in the other two columns (for status and title),  fill them in, then run a spreadsheet edit.  You can read more about spreadsheet edits using the app here, https://support.ablestar.com/article/23-editing-products-by-spreadsheet.

The app also has a free version available that would be able to accomplish the task.  If you have any questions about the app or need help setting up the edit you can reach out to use directly at support@ablestar.com

Best,

Alison

I see this is an old post and I hope you already found the solution.

We built an app which allows archiving products in bulk.

However changing title is not one of our features.
