Spend xxx amount and choose an item for free

Hello there,

I wanted to create a collection of products that if a customer spends XX amount they can choose one item from the collection for free.  Is there a way of doing this without an app.

You can do it with Dicount in Shopify. Go to Discount -> Create discount -> Buy X get Y, it has options for minimum quantity of items and minimum purchase spend. I think you will know how to set it when you see the interface.

It's not working!  I can set an amount but it can't create a collection that then they can chose a free product from.
