Stop accepting orders but keep the store browsable?

I need to work on an urgent project, hoping to cut down on all but the most urgent orders, but I don't want to pause the store, which seems to mean that people can't browse the store and item pages. Is there anything I can do?

Thank you for reaching out to the Community! I'm happy to provide some assistance with temporarily pausing your shop while you work on a project. To share some context, we currently offer a plan called Pause and Build that will allow you to do just that. 

 

To provide some more context, this plan allows your shop to run at a reduced fee where you will continue to have access to the Shopify admin. It also provides customers with access to the online storefront, where they will be able to browse but will not be able to check out. For more information, I recommend checking out our Pausing or Deactivating Your Store documentation. 

 

To make this switch, you can:

 

  • Have the account owner log into the shop. 
  • From the Shopify admin, select Settings > Plan. 
  • Click Deactivate store > Pause and build plan.

  • Carefully review the plan details, and then click Switch to Pause and build.

OK reading up onPause and Build that might be an option. But I hope to only need it for a a couple weeks, a month max.
Do all plans have calculated shipping now?
I'm wary of changing plans because it's caused problems in the past.

Thank you for the prompt response! You can switch to the Pause and Build Plan for as long as needed, whether that's a few weeks or months. 

 

As for calculated shipping, are you looking at having Carrier-Calculated Shipping? If so, this can be added onto your plan for an additional monthly fee. If however, you select the Advanced Plan or switch to yearly billing this feature will be included.

Hi Jeff, you can very easily lock your store from purchasing but still make it brows-able using the Cart Lock https://apps.shopify.com/cart-lock app. To do it, follow the steps below:

 

  1. Open the app and click on the "Add a new rule" button.
  2. Click "Add a new condition" and select the "Cart total" option.
  3. Add 1 in the "Block if more than" field if all your product's price is above 1.
  4. In the "Error message" field, add an appropriate message which will be displayed in the checkout page.
  5. Save the rule.

That's it. Now your store is locked from purchasing but still people can browse the product pages.
