Is anyone else having issues with paying for your shopify site?
I have used my RBC Virtual Visa for the last 3 years to pay for my other shopify site. I use this specifically for that business' purchases. They froze the website a few days ago - I guess they have made attempts on the card since the end of December. Billing is showing this is the only outstanding invoice.
Funds are in the account. Its not an RBC issue (I have called twice, checked with 3 departments - its not them)
I tried a non RBC card I do not use for business and I received the same error message.
EDIT TO ADD: RBC confirmed that they do not see multiple attempts to process the charge or declines on their end. Shopify support yesterday said their error code says 2000 which indicates too many attempts
I have spoken to support 3 times, first support agent tried running the card with no success and was as puzzled as I was. I submit 2 tickets, and a high priority attached to one. It has been 3 days with updates such as "they will get in touch within 24 hours."
I have customers emailing me frustrated they cant make their purchases, I'm frustrated with sales being lost during one of the slowest months of the year for me.
Does anyone have any insight as to why this could be happening?
Card has more than enough funds to process the payment even with the exchange from CAD to USD.
Card information all matches/no changes
No restrictions on the card or changes from the bank (ie: limits etc...)
Other forms of payment/cards are not working (Same error message - see below)
I have tried through the app, from a desktop, cleared cache and browser history, restarted both, and tried different browsers.
Error Message:
"Unable to resolve all outstanding invoices with the selected payment method. Pleas try again or use a different account or method"
Hi @kismetandsoul,
I'm Kate from PageFly, a Shopify Landing Page Builder app. I’m really sorry to hear about the payment issues you’re experiencing—it sounds incredibly stressful, especially during an already slow sales period. I’ve looked into your situation, and I’d like to share some insights and suggestions that might help resolve this for you:
Shopify’s billing system has specific requirements for payment methods. Unfortunately, virtual credit cards like your RBC Virtual Visa may not always be compatible. Shopify requires a valid Mastercard, Visa, or American Express that supports recurring payments in USD. While some debit cards work if they’re co-branded with these providers, virtual cards often fail due to restrictions with recurring billing.
If you can, try using a traditional credit card. This could help bypass potential compatibility issues and process your payment.
The “Too Many Attempts” error generally occurs when multiple failed payment attempts trigger Shopify’s fraud prevention system. Although RBC has confirmed no declines on their end, Shopify’s system may not have received proper authorization for the transaction.
Here’s what you can try:
You’ve already done a great job by clearing your cache, switching devices, and trying different browsers. Here are a few additional steps to consider:
Since you’ve already contacted Shopify Support, I recommend keeping them updated with as much detail as possible. This can help speed up the resolution:
Additionally, the Shopify Help Center is a great place to explore. At the moment, to help ease the situation, I suggesting you can:
I know dealing with this can feel like an uphill battle, but with persistence, you’ll likely find a resolution. Keep working closely with Shopify Support and your bank to address the issue. In the meantime, if you need further assistance or have any specific questions, don’t hesitate to ask—I’m happy to help in any way I can.
Wishing you a quick and smooth resolution!
Best regards,
Kate
