I'm new to shopify and am working on temporarily closing a pre-existing clothing site for a few weeks to redesign for the fall drop. I want the site to be a single page with a brief message and an option to provide your phone number for sms updates on the fall drop. Any help appreciated

Hi @BetterOffAlone

It sounds like you're in the process of revamping your clothing store for an upcoming fall drop and want to temporarily close your Shopify store while keeping customers engaged with SMS updates. That’s a great approach—it keeps your audience informed and builds anticipation for your new collection.

Solution: Setting Up a Temporary Landing Page with SMS Signup

Since Shopify doesn’t have a built-in "temporary close" feature, the best way to achieve this is by creating a password-protected landing page that includes a message about your relaunch and an SMS sign-up option. Here’s how you can do it:

Step 1: Enable Password Protection (Coming Soon Mode)

  1. Go to your Shopify Admin.
  2. Click Online Store > Preferences.
  3. Scroll down to the Password protection section.
  4. Check Enable password and add a short message explaining your store is temporarily closed for redesign.
  5. Click Save.

This will prevent customers from browsing your site while still allowing you to display a message.

Step 2: Create a Simple Landing Page with an SMS Signup Form

To collect phone numbers for SMS updates, you have a few options:

Option 1: Use Shopify’s Built-in Theme Editor

  • Go to Online Store > Themes.
  • Click Customize on your active theme.
  • Select Password page from the dropdown.
  • Add a short, engaging message like:
"We’re redesigning for an exciting fall drop! Leave your phone number below to be the first to know when we go live."
  • Add a custom form block (HTML block) for SMS collection (this requires a third-party SMS app).

Option 2: Use a Shopify App for SMS Collection Since Shopify doesn’t collect phone numbers directly on the password page, you’ll need an app like:

  • Klaviyo (for both email & SMS collection)
  • Postscript SMS Marketing
  • SMSBump (great for Shopify integration)

Most of these apps provide a snippet of code to embed an SMS signup form on your landing page.

Step 3: Customize Your Design

To make the page visually appealing:

  • Add a high-quality background image (such as a sneak peek of the fall collection).
  • Keep the text short and engaging.
  • Make the SMS signup button prominent.

Here’s an example of how your landing page could look:

Here’s an example of how your temporary landing page could look. A clean, modern design with a simple message and an SMS signup field will keep customers engaged while your store is being revamped.

Once everything is set up, do a quick test to ensure the SMS form is working correctly. If you need any other assistance, feel free to reply and I will try my best to help.

Best regards,
Daisy
