All things Shopify and commerce
Hi
I have a question for either the Development team OR The Hive Mind...
I've had a customer saying that her address is not recognised by our store, even though the address has been in existence for a very long time! It was preventing her from choosing shipping rates, thus unable to complete her order.
I recreated the order from my end, using her details, and when I tried to apply shipping to it, I got this :
The address is complete! I have googled it! It comes up in various searches.
There is nothing missing or out of place!
Any idea why this might be occurring!?
We've not had anyone else contact us with this issue, but that doesnt mean other customers aren't experiencing it!
If it's something simple, I'l fix it!
If it's something difficult, I'll pass it on to a professional!
Thanks all, look forward to the replies!
Hi @SteveWinch5DS you need to contact shopify support directly because no one else will be able to replicate this without you revealing customer personal data;
unless you go through the effort of finding a public business/government address etc with similar replicable behavior that in no way indicates even partially the customers address or identity.
The address is complete! I have googled it! It comes up in various searches.
Google or other search engines, or "address search engine" services that scrape the net are NOT an address or mailing authority.
Do not use such things as the basis of what is "complete" or valid they autogenerate a lot of data that doesn't exist; and that was before LLM's like chatgpt starting polluting the net.
Seek out an actual paid address verification service or mailing authority for real address validation.
i.e. https://tools.usps.com/zip-code-lookup.htm?byaddress (and even they get it wrong sometimes 🤷♂️)

Thanks for the reply Paul.
The USPS llink is unlieky to work for UK addresses!
However, the fact the customer has lived there for 14 years should be indication enough that the address is correct, surely?
Google only verified the information she gave me.
And as luck would have it, I've just had another customer message me with a similar issue!
Shipping address not recognised... after many years of residing at that address. Strange.
