All things Shopify and commerce
Hello:
I just checked my abandoned cart file and noticed 50 abandoned orders placed yesterday -- all under the same name, but with different addresses across the U.S. Each order also had an email that started and ended with the word "fake".
I can't help but think that something nefarious is going on, and am hoping that someone can shed light of what this may mean, and if there is some kind of fraudulent testing going on.
Also, is there a way to block a particular party or email from one's site?
Many thanks.
Hi @metroretro
Card testing is a likely scenario here. Sometimes, the Shopify timeline will let you know if they tried to make a payment attempt like the screenshot below.
Bad actors will usually have a database of stolen CC information and attempt to see which ones are valid so that they can be used for bigger purchases later. Just be very weary and watch out for future orders.
You can block the email or IP address using fraud filter (free). If you need more advance blocking features like preventing the customer from making duplicate accounts, then try take a look at our app Beacon.
I appreciate your reply Jason, and thorough explanation. Last night I found another similar thread, however, I will check my payment timeline now to be sure.
Also, thank you for the app recommendations.
