What happened to expanding Shopify Payments to other countries?

Shopify Payments is almost essential, yet it's unavailable for most people.

I have learned that Shopify Payments is essential if you plan to run a profitable online store on Shopify. However, for someone like me living in Norway, I simply cannot afford to use Shopify, as the additional fees would absolutely tank my profits. People in Norway, along with many other countries still can't use Shopify Payments. I estimated, with the type of products I am selling, that Stripe would take around 15% of my profits, which is acceptable for my kind of business, but Shopify would then proceed to take 10% extra of my profits. That is a 25% total reduction in my profits. The worst thing is that this is a completely avoidable issue.

All of this could be fixed with the launch of Shopify Payments in other countries. Shopify would also benefit from this, as they would be the ones collecting all the fees. I understand that it's more complicated than just "adding a country" to Shopify Payments, but it has been over 3 years since I saw a discussion about this, thinking it was only months away. It's a true shame that Shopify Payments isn't available in more countries and would benefit both Shopify users and Shopify if it was.

The only reason I am not using Shopify is because Shopify Payments is not available in my country. I would switch to Shopify immediately if Shopify Payments was available or the 2% transaction fee was removed, and I believe many people feel the same way.

Although I'm not able to provide a timeline for when Shopify Payments may be available in Norway, I have shared this thread with our developers so that they're aware.

Please expand it to Greece too. We've been hearing about shopify payments expansions for years now. So many people don't use Shopify because of this.

While Shopify Payments continues to expand, it is not yet available in Greece. I will however, be sure to pass this suggestion along as we're always looking for ways to improve the platform. As. I won't have any details on whether and/or if this becomes available, you can continue to refer to the Shopify Changelog for updates!
