All things Shopify and commerce
Very disheartened to hear that eBay is dropping the eBay Shopify app. It puts my shop in a conundrum. I sell trading cards, so a lot of small transactions and many listings. By far the majority of sales are on eBay, not in my Shopify storefront. Solutions like Codisto would be cost prohibitive since I have a large amount of small (> $10) orders. I guess I could write some code on my own to do the work, but not sure I'll have enough time between my real job and this side gig to write it in less than 3 months.
Anyone else in the same boat? If so, I'd love to hear your thoughts. Would love if Shopify wrote an eBay integration app. If not, the business decision might need to be if I just go back to eBay only and drop Shopify. I love the customization I can do here, but if 95% of sales are in eBay...
Seriously? How do they get away with this crap! It was advertised to me as list on ebay for free.
I will need to find a new app as well. It worked ok but each company blamed the other for any issues so sometimes you had to troubleshoot on your own. I now need to get something for Google, Shopify, Ebay and Amazon. In talking to customer service with both companies it seemed like it wasn't a widely used app.
I too am gutted about this. The only reason I chose Shopify above the many others is because of the integration with eBay. I assume Shopify will be dropping their prices now they can't offer everything they promised to begin with? Right???
Haha, no, best case is they RAISE fees only like 10% next year. They can blame 'ebay' all they want but they advertised free ebay integration, THEY need to make a free plugin available themselves, and now. This is on Shopify.
@Shopify Are you listening? You're letting your customers down. It's much easier to shift away from Shopify without free integration - that you promised...
I am in a similar position and joined Shopify BECAUSE of the ease with which I could sell my preloved clothing on eBay. The other apps recommended are expensive and each one has negative feedback, and will take time I just don't have to set up. When I tried to find out why, eBay said contact shopify, and the shopify app said contact eBay. Without this free app (which is how it was sold to me) it would seriously impact my business, and I'm having to review whether I will use shopify going forward. May as well just run it from my ebay shop. I am gutted.
Has anyone figured out how to migrate to another tool without relisting everything on ebay?
I believe the current tool is inkfrog on the backend, but tried the paid inkfrog tool and it gives an error.
"API Error: Inventory-based listing management is not currently supported by this tool. Please refer to the tool used to create this listing"
I was just looking at the app myself. Based on what I read, I bet the current eBay app is "managing" the listings now. I'm pretty sure you can terminate the current app's integration without deleting the ads. You would then import them into inkfrog when you sync for the first time. The potential issues may be things like your pictures aren't synced until you get inkfrog set up and if you're not using "custom eBay description" and "custom eBay title" then text may be messed up. I am no expert, just guessing based on issues in the past with the eBay and Shopify. I'd be interested to see if you can make it work without doing it manually.
Honestly, the existing App is crap, and it is Inkfrog.
Anyone have a good app solution yet? I'm about ready to sue Shopify this is absurd. The first app I tried is garbage and doesn't work at all. And it's like 60$/month vs free like before. There seems to be nothing I can do now.
Inkfrog is only like $29, but challenge is you’ll need to cancel and relist all of your existing eBay items.
Have you read the off site reviews? It sounds like an utter disaster to use. Shopify literally advertised and told me I can sell on ebay for free with Shopify. (except ebay fees), they can't just take it away and not replace it with their own free app!
The current eBay app is rebranded inkfrog, the paid app is super hard to get used to.
Don’t disagree with you on the other point, Shopify advertised eBay integration and it’s lame to just find out it was a 3rd party app completely unaffiliated with Shopify.
I’m sure in the fine print they have some disclaimer that absolves them from any liability in this…. Doesn’t change the issue that there’s no path, even customer funded, to resolve without relisting thousands of items.
The notification just came out, perhaps someone is working on a solution.
Just like what happened to Amazon integration. I refuse to pay for an Amazon app integration and I won't pay for an eBay integration. It's absurd. Two years ago we had it all for free! Now you have to use 3rd party apps! With our margins already pressured by inflation and sales down by recession!
I will try to create an excel macro just like I did with Amazon. That's the only solution at the moment. Shame on you, Shopify!
So, I've now made the switch, to LitCommerce, it's not cheap but I can pull my Etsy integration into it as well.
Here's the fun part. These jokers at Shopify haven't realised my Shopify Capital payments were previously 10% of Shopify and eBay sales combined. Now I'm not using their app, it's 10% of Shopify alone. So in other words, it'll take about 300 years to pay it off 😂. Could not make it up.

Agree the current app is terrible. I started using Codisto for new listings and it’s easier than I expected. There is a drop down menu (where you would delete or duplicate a product) that says Codisto. You can enable your listings to eBay there.
It does make me select my shipping and return policies each time so would like to see that have a default setting so we don’t have to change it for every listing. If anyone knows how to do this would appreciate it
Hey! eBay rolled out a newsletter in October wherein it shared a few alternates to its eBay Shopify App. You can choose from the list. However, one such app listed on that newsletter happens to be CedCommerce’s Shopify Integration for eBay. It is good.
The app comes with a free recurring plan to manage orders and products per month. Also, the app allows you to connect multiple eBay seller accounts form any region and customize account based settings for each. I recommend that you go through the app features and decide for yourself.
I have tried cedcommerce for about 2 months and it is a lot of work to use. There is no automatic matching based on your existing eBay listings and you have to set up a bunch of different "profiles" and "templates" to match your Shopify listings to the existing eBay listings and got several inventory and price sync issues that take support several weeks to respond. These are issues that occur silently so you won't see any errors in the sync, but you would notice when manually reviewing discrepancies. It also looks like the old eBay app left some custom attributes (eg. "sku") on listings that can't be changed.
I think its about time we make a new platform
