What will happen if I only transfer domain from existing website to shopify

Hi there I am new to Shopify.

I have an existing website that is built by an outdated website builder and I would like to remake it with Shopify.
Since it is like a 100% make-over, does it mean I just need to transfer my domain to Shopify and the existing website content will be overwritten by what I have built in Shopify?

yes that is correct.

Before you undertake this, as you are moving platforms - whilst keeping same domain name, be sure to correctly set up your 301 redirects so your current URL paths for say - product pages, will redirect to your new ones as the paths will almost certainly change
