Hello All 🙂

Where in Analytics can I find which are my most viewed products, or where can I see how many times a product is viewed?

Thank you!

Hey, @NF1 !

Katy here from Shopify. I hope all is well with you.

Great question! This information would be part of the Behavior reports which are available on the Basic or higher. We have some more info on this here

You can find this information under: Analytics > Behavior reports > Top online store searches > specify your date range,

If however, you're not on one of these plans or not yet ready to make the jump, you could use a reporting app or Google Analytics to help you with this. There is also a great free app which allows you to pull this data into your Shopify admin.

You may also find some more helpful resources for analyzing your store metrics from within our Blog

I hope this helps, though do feel free to let me know if you have any questions at all.

Cheers,

Katy

Thanks for this! I'm wanting to see what my customers' top views* are, not necessarily what they are searching* for.

Apologies for the delay in getting back to you, @NF1 and thanks for the added clarification on this for me.

In this case, you could utilize the Enhanced Ecommerce section within Google analytics. This allows you to view 'Product performance reports'. You can do this from a shopping behavior point of view and measure user engagement (e.g. views) of your products. I have included some links to help you below:

Google Analytics also has some tips on working with the Shopping behavior report too, in this video demo

Alternatively, there is a specific app for this function which you may like to trial out:

I hope this helps!

Cheers,
Katy

If you're looking for product views in order to find your bestsellers, you may also like Hype the Like. It's pretty simple, it just installs a Tinder-like widget on your website and your users like or dislike your product catalog. Then you get the stats back, and voilà, you can start to learn what your best products are (even before you sell them!)

Check it out here: https://apps.shopify.com/hype-the-like

@hypethelike Great concept but the app needs to be cleaned up a bit.

On Apple products, at least, thumbs up and down buttons are not centered and do not show until you pan over.

There isn't a clear X out button, making it confusing for people to close the widget if needed.

I have the same question - I want to know which products are getting attention, in order to work out which direction to take with merchandising/product range, photography etc. Unfortunately, Shopify doesn't seem to provide this info to store owners, even though they will actually have that data in their back-end. You have to install google analytics tracking scripts into your website, or someone else's analytics scripts, then get the information from Google instead. Not sure why this is.

So my question is: How is Shopify able to display this information in a "Card" on the homepage of the site, yet we cannot access that metric without an App?

Exactly. We should be able to to see the details of their "Card" in the reports. That's a BASIC information.

You can now use ShopifyQL Notebooks  to create reports for pretty much anything.

For most viewed products (view sessions) over the last 3 months, you can use a query like this:

FROM products
SHOW sum(view_sessions) AS product_views
GROUP BY product_title
SINCE -3m UNTIL today
ORDER BY product_views DESC
LIMIT 1000

That is a great start! Now I just need to figure out how to drill that "product_title" down to the variant level to determine which variant(s) are better sellers than others!

This is not available for my store so I assume it's only for shopify plus?
