Why am I not making any sales despite my SEO efforts?

Hello Everyone! I am having a heck of a time getting even my first sale. Does anyone have any sage advice? I worked really hard to create and photograph beautifully designed products, SEO optimized my site and built in my long form product descriptions, I have been posting on insta, FB and Twitter platforms 3 times daily. It’s been a month since I started promotions and I haven’t even had a visit to my store. I just added mailchimp for pop ups and email conversion. I’m stumped though. Not even one sale. Any suggestions? Thanks so much for your help!

Hello 689designs,

Thanks for reaching out to the community!

Well, some of the common reasons for not getting orders on Shopify store are:

  1. Poor Product Descriptions and Images: If the product descriptions are too generic and images are not optimized (say the images of the products are of low visual quality, and not taken from different angles), then there is a high chance that the customers are not convinced enough or encouraged to purchase the products from your store. Suggestions:
    1. Post good-quality product images taken from different angles
    2. Write detailed product descriptions with effective keywords
    3. Product descriptions should cover all the specifications and features of the products and should be convincing enough
  2. Unsecure Websites: Ensure the security of the websites, as no one wants to browse or purchase from a website that gives an ‘Unsecure Connection’ error. Acquire an SSL certificate for your website, which enables the website to encrypt and share the data on Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS), which ensures the customers' trust in your website.
  3. Complicated Checkout Process: Some websites have complicated checkout process, which confuses the users and increase the cart abandonment rate of the website. Ask some of your peers to check the website to ensure that the website’s usability is good.
  4. Additional or Unexpected Shipping Charges: Sometimes, the users are about to checkout and complete the purchase, but abandon the cart when they see additional or unexpected shipping charges, assure that you notify the users initially about the shipping charges on different items. Also, include offers and discounts for first-time customers, or offer free shipping for an order over a certain amount to encourage customers to purchase.
  5. Fewer Payment Options: Ensure that you give the customers enough options, not only in the products but also in the payment. For instance, customers should be able to pay using a credit card, debit card, PayPal, etc.
  6. Difficult Navigation: Check the usability of your website, and ensure that it is not too difficult for the customers to navigate their way through the website. If your website has a number of pages, consider including a user sitemap on the website.
  7. Poor Website Design: If the design or visuals of the website are not appealing enough, the customers find no motivation to stay on the website. Additionally, poor website design does not give the website a professional look, which makes the customers doubt the authenticity of the website and its products.
  8. Poor Performing Website: Check the performance and functionality of the website. For the same, check if the website’s speed is good, and if there is any broken link on the website and all the other technical aspects. Blank pages or technical errors cause frustration among users and increase the bounce of the website.

Hope it helps!

Hi @689designs,

I've taken a look at your store, and I must say you've done a great job with product design, SEO, and customization. However, I have a few suggestions to enhance your store's presentation and overall performance:

  1. Paid Advertising: If you're running paid ads but not getting visitors, consider refining your target audience. Precisely targeting the right audience can make a significant difference. If you're not running ads, consider running them on Meta.
  2. Social Media: Posting on social media is good, but it's not enough. Building a substantial following takes time, paid ads can be more effective initially.
  3. Email Marketing: While Mailchimp for pop-ups and email is a good choice, it's essential to grow your email list first. Use either the default Shopify email bar or third-party apps that offer this functionality. BolideAI - Upsell & Marketing also offers Pop-ups and Email Collection Bar features you might want to explore once you've increased your traffic through ads.

Regarding your store:

  1. Homepage Organization: Instead of displaying all your products on the home page, consider using product recommendation widgets. This approach keeps your homepage clean, organized, and credible. You can use the "Featured Products" widget to promote the products you want to sell the most. An app like BolideAI - Upsell & Marketing offers useful product recommendation features you might find valuable.

  2. Unique Selling Proposition (USP): Make your USP clear on the homepage. Take inspiration from this example: Hubert Bookbinding. Their clean homepage effectively communicates their USP and features their products prominently.

  3. Footer: Add a footer to your store with essential information like Privacy Policy, Shipping Policy, and Terms & Conditions. This provides transparency and builds trust with customers.

Hope you find these suggestions helpful.

Best regards,

BolideAI

SEO is a long game, but you should also consider diversifying your marketing channels. While SEO and social media are important, direct engagement through email and push notifications can drive more immediate traffic. I’d suggest using a combination of Klaviyo for email and UnblockedBrands for push notifications. The latter has worked well for me in driving conversions through real-time, personalized notifications, especially for limited-time offers or new product launches.

Hey 689designs,

Heddy from Gameball: Loyalty Program & VIP here!

Double-check your site’s user experience to ensure it’s smooth, and your checkout process is simple. Consider running a small paid ad campaign on platforms like Instagram or Facebook to reach a broader audience. You might also offer a first-time buyer discount to entice purchases. Incorporating Gameball for loyalty rewards could engage your visitors and motivate conversions.
