All things Shopify and commerce
Out of the last 31 checkouts initiated on my store I have only had one purchase. This is very strange as on the same days the previous week I had 15 purchases from 28 checkouts initiated and the week before that I had 8 from 19. I haven't changed anything in the checkout process since last week and I'm still advertising exactly the same products. I've just placed an order myself to test it and it went through without any problems but I'm wondering if some customers are experiencing problems. I've spoken to a Shopify support agent and they couldn't identify any problem. I know there are always ups and downs but this seems extreme.
Has anybody else experienced this?
Hello Matt2023,
There can be various reasons behind the high cart abandonment rate, like complicated checkout processes or issues in the functionality of the website.
So, here are some suggestions for you:
Hope it helps!

Hi Leesha,
Thanks for your reply but I've already implemented most of these points. It doesn't explain why it was working perfectly fine before but now there has suddenly been such a dramatic decline.
Is there any reason you can think of that may have caused this? Could there be an error somewhere?
Hi Matt2023,
Have you made any recent changes to the website? Like - increased the prices of the products, changed return/exchange policies, made it compulsory to have an account to complete the purchase, etc.
Another possible issue could be the slow page speed of the website. Thus, consider using the PageSpeed Insights tool to check the speed of the website on desktop and mobile devices, and identify various opportunities to improve the speed and functionality of the website.
Hello @Matt2023
It's certainly frustrating to see a significant drop in conversion rates on your online store. There are several steps you can take to investigate and potentially resolve the problem:
Check your website analytics to see if there have been any significant changes in traffic sources, user behavior, or drop-offs in the checkout process. Google Analytics or Shopify's built-in analytics can provide valuable insights.
Verify that there are no technical issues on your website, such as broken links, slow page loading times, or checkout errors. Try different devices and browsers to ensure compatibility.
Look at the data for abandoned carts to see if there are any common patterns or issues that could be driving potential customers away. Are there particular steps in the checkout process where customers tend to drop off?
Collect feedback from customers who abandoned their carts. You can send follow-up emails to inquire about their experience and reasons for not completing the purchase. This can provide valuable insights.
Set up a points program. Use the Loloyal loyalty program to display points next to the price of your products to inspire your customers to place an order.
Hope this will help you.
