Why are my product images not appearing after language switch?

I need some urgent help please. I'm switching my site from English to French, to do this I exported all of the english product files and translated to french on the csv. When I went to re-upload in the backend, I deleted all of the english products as thought this was the correct thing to do. I uploaded the French files, which contain all of the original Shopify CDN image file links and no images are appearing. I've tried adding the links into my browser and nada. I have over 900 products so to re-upload every image individually will be a nightmare. Anyone any idea what can be done please?
