Why are payment amounts different between dashboard, sales, and excel export?

Why is it that none of the sales data matches?

For example, let's say the shop sold for £5000 in 30 days.

1. When you look at the dashboard for 30-days sales report it shows £5,045.05 in sales.
The dates are specific.

2. When you look at the exact same date range for "Order transactions" it differs and may say £5113.07 of sales before fees. There are no refunds, returns or other changes that explains why the amounts differ.

3. When you export the same date range in excel on "Payouts" it again differs and may show £4,964.97 in sales before fees. And this before you deduct any fees and no other payout is pending.

Nothing ads up to the same sales amount.

Does anyone know why?

The discrepancies in sales data on Shopify are due to how each report calculates and displays the data:

1. Dashboard Sales Report: It shows gross sales, including discounts, taxes, and shipping. It may also consider pending or partially paid orders, affecting the total.

2. Order Transactions Report: This report shows sales before fees, but it might include additional adjustments like currency conversion fees or adjustments for international orders, leading to a slightly different total.

3. Payouts Report: This report shows the actual amount payout after deductions like payment gateway fees or adjustments. It may also include timing differences, as some payouts might be processed slightly after the order date.

To get consistent data, ensure that you are comparing reports with the same criteria (like gross vs. net) and timing (processed vs. pending transactions).

Whether you export the dashboard sales, order transaction report, or payout report, all of these will show the total sales yet the total sales never matches each of these reports.
