Re: Immediate Twitter Results

Why aren't my website listings generating traffic from Twitter like my eBay listings?

Hi All!

I've got my new website up and running, still working on SEO though.  I've noticed something though that doesn't quite make sense.  Up until this point in time I've been selling well on Ebay, I hope to make my website more successful than Ebay given time.  When I list something on Ebay I scatter it across Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, and Instagram.  As soon as I post it to Twitter I get a very good number of hits to that particular listing.  The number of eyes on that listing typically go up to 20.  These hits show immediately.  When I do the same thing with my website listing there are no hits.  And I'm only sharing the new listings through my website and not through Ebay now  My question is then, why am I not seeing the same results posting my website listing, especially Twitter? It's as if the posts to twitter aren't even being seen.

Thanks!

Penny

Where do you look for visits?

If you use Google Analytics you can look at the Realtime report for visitors in realtime. If you look at other stats they will be delayed and only show up after some time.

I look at the Google analytics for the real time visits.  Nothing changes, my main traffic source at this point tends to be direct.

Do your website have proper Social META-data (Schema, OG and Twitter Card at least)? If not, then the links you share won't (always) show up as nice in social media and that could explain it.

I'm not sure, and I don't know how to find that myself.  I'll have to contact the Shopify Partner business that created my wonderful site and ask them.  Is that the right course of action for me at this point?

Thanks!

You can check it it the Facebook and Twitter debguggers

https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/

https://cards-dev.twitter.com/validator

And yes, the Social META-data should be there. If not, Facebook have to guess what to show - and they do not always guess so well.

Thanks for that info.  I checked several listed items with Twitter card validator.  All of the items I checked were there along with photo and info.  The problem that I see now though is that almost all of the photos had issues such as side shots, back shots, extreme close-ups or no photo at all.  Of course I would like to have the main photo showing all of the time but that doesn't appear to be the case.

Then the text below begins with my title and text from my description coming from anywhere within the description.  My flowery text may not show but measurements were there.

My question is do I have control over any of this chaos?  And the Twitter card doesn't appear to have anything to do with my original question here of not getting immediate hits on my website from Twitter when I tweet my listings.  When I do the same on Ebay the clicks on my tweet show immediately on Ebay.  When I tweet from either site the tweets are identical except where the person who clicks on my link either lands on Ebay or website.  That doesn't make sense........
