Hi @tsdesire

Thank you for reaching out here for assistance.

I understand that you are experiencing some issues with PayPal on your Shopify store. To clarify, are you trying to setup the 'PayPal Website Payments Pro (UK)' payment gateway on your Shopify store?

Thanks for providing the screenshot with instructions. Can you confirm if you are seeing these instructions in your Shopify admin, or perhaps on a guide you found online? If so, please feel free to share it with me here, so that I can take a closer look.

If you are located in the UK, then PayPal Website Payments Pro (UK) is available in your region as you can see here on our payment gateways page. However, this gateway is external to Shopify, so if you are seeing an error relating to your PayPal account specifically, then it may be necessary to reach out to PayPal's customer support directly. They may be able to provide specific guidance and assistance in resolving any account-related issues that may be causing the error during activation.

Can you confirm if you have any other direct payment services active on your store such as Shopify Payments? Also, feel free to share a screenshot of the actual error that you mentioned, so that I can take a closer look at what might be happening. Once you can provide a little bit more context and information, we can do our best to troubleshoot with you here.

Thanks for getting back @tsdesire

You mentioned that you are not located in the UK - the selection of payment providers that you can choose from for your store will be region specific based on your store location. Please enter your location on our payment gateways page and let me know if PayPal Website Payments Pro is showing for you as an option to choose from?

You mentioned you had a few other accounts with various other payment providers - whichever gateway you decide to use, you should review the specific requirements and restrictions based on your country of residence. It's important to comply with all necessary documentation and regulations.

Shopify Payments does indeed have verification and document requirements, which are in place to maintain compliance, prevent fraud, manage risk, and provide a secure payment environment for both merchants and customers. If you would like to learn more about these requirements, feel free to check out our help center here.

If you were previously trying to setup Shopify Payments and experienced issues with pending payouts, then I would recommend contacting our support team directly, so that we can take a closer look and assist with account setup.

If you're getting the error "There was an issue with PayPal. Try again or use a different payment method" when trying to activate PayPal or PayPal Express on Shopify, it can be frustrating—especially if you're trying to start or grow your business.
