Why Does Shopify Keep Ruining The Backend Live Map??

Is anyone else as annoyed as I am that Shopify keeps screwing up the 'Live Map' layout? The hexagon map is literally the most useless thing I've ever seen.  Now all of a sudden they have taken away all state and country borders on the normal map.  Why would you think we wouldn't want those? I mean seriously? Give us back the damn lines!!!!!!!!

Hi,

This is Richard at PageFly - Shopify Advanced Page Builder app.

You're definitely not alone in your frustration with Shopify's Live View map changes. Many Shopify merchants have expressed similar concerns about the usability and design of the map, particularly the hexagon layout and the removal of state/country borders.

Here's a breakdown of why this is a common issue and what you can potentially do:

Common Complaints About Shopify's Live View Map:

  • Hexagon Layout:
    • It's often considered visually confusing and difficult to interpret.
    • It doesn't provide a clear or accurate representation of customer locations.
    • It lacks the context and detail of a traditional map.
  • Removal of Borders:
    • Without state or country borders, it's challenging to quickly and accurately identify customer locations.
    • It makes it harder to visualize sales patterns and geographical trends.
    • It reduces the ability to quickly visualize where sales are coming from.
  • Usability Concerns:
    • Many merchants find the changes to be counterintuitive and detrimental to their workflow.
    • The lack of customization options is also a source of frustration.

Why Shopify Might Be Making These Changes:

  • Data Visualization Experimentation:
    • Shopify may be experimenting with different data visualization techniques to improve the Live View experience.
    • They may be trying to simplify the map or highlight specific data points.
  • Performance Optimization:
    • They might be making changes to improve the performance of the Live View feature, especially for stores with high traffic.
  • Mobile Optimization:
    • They could be trying to make the map look better on mobile devices.
  • A/B Testing:
    • Shopify often runs A/B tests on their platform, so the changes you're seeing might be part of a test.

What You Can Do:

  • Provide Feedback to Shopify:
    • The most effective way to address these issues is to provide direct feedback to Shopify.
    • Use the feedback options within the Shopify admin panel or contact Shopify support.
    • Clearly articulate your concerns and explain why the changes are detrimental to your business.
    • The more merchants who voice their opinions, the more likely Shopify is to take action.
  • Engage in Shopify Forums and Communities:
    • Share your concerns with other Shopify merchants in online forums and communities.
    • This can help raise awareness of the issue and potentially lead to collective action.
  • Feature Requests:
    • Submit a feature request to shopify, requesting the ability for map customization, or the return of the map boarders.
  • Third-Party Apps (Limited):
    • While there may not be apps that directly replace the Live View map, you might find apps that provide alternative sales analytics and geographical data.

Hoping my solution helps you solve your problem.

Best regards,

Richard | PageFly

EDIT TO POST: I don't need people offering solutions. I need SHOPIFY to stop making these stupid changes - this was directed to them, I am not asking for help.  I am not spending my time or money to custom code my website because Shopify cannot provide a basic common sense map.

First (for me) order notifications are no longer persistent (at least on an iPhone). I took all steps to remove/restore/adjust notifications and the app with no change. Shopify is aware, but doesn't care - and it is a Shopify issue, not an iPhone issue.
Now the Analytics map borders go away. No possible good reason for this. Customer Support didn't even know, and had to take 20 minutes to get a response from the "developers". And don't get me started with the Digital Downloads app (for those who use it). No way to sort orders to see if a customer downloaded the product, or see the email sent to customers (they took that away, like the map borders). It's embarrassing for a company this large.

With each issue, Shopify becomes less and less usable/desirable. It's a shame.
Oh yeah, and I still have Abandoned Checkouts from 5 years ago. You know, the ones that are "automatically deleted" after 3 months!

Shopify has no idea how to fix that either. Okay, I'm done venting.☺
