Hi all.
Dont know if anyone else is experiencing this but the tagging thing has changed again and i dont know if its just me, but when i go to type something to add a new tag, it is EXTREMELY SLOW and laggy!!
Ive tried accessing my page from 2 different computers with 2 different connections (home and work) and that isnt the problem.
Anyone got the same issue?
We are having the same issue here and also if we check multiple tags that start with the same letter the list no longer stays up to select all that apply. You have to retype each word to select. So time consuming. Tried calling Shopify for assistance on this an another issue, was placed on hold and disconnected.
Yes we are are having the same issue and shopify is trying to tell me it's working fine. I used to do add tags in split seconds and now its taking me longer than doing the complete product including adding a picture. I got so frustrated today I gave up in adding anymore items. They need to fix this asap.
I am having the same problem. It completely freezes when I try to add tags.
While im glad im not the only one having this problem, i feel for everyone coz its so frustrating.
Dont you hate it when they try and be too smart for their own good?
The tagging thing was working perfectly FINE and it was FAST...just leave it alone. If it aint broke dont fix it. Now its just crap !
Agree! Shopify, please fix this. The new system is so slow. It takes forever to select a box and have it selected and appear. If you try to go to fast, you get the wrong tags inserted. Tying to tag on the bulk editor page is even worse.
Yep, here too.
This is a very strange change... when you click to add a tag (new or existing) it then rebuilds the tag dropdown menu (a UL element + javascript) to display *every* tag... so if you guys have a lot of tags, as I do, the lag is likely the browser building that component (my fans start up!)
Not good, almost unusable.
Other issues:
The bulk editor has the same problem (and other existing issues), so for now you have one other option:
This doesn't have as much lag and you can add multiple tags at once, but it's a workaround and I hope this gets fixed.
@Shopify maybe Shopify customer service or one of there developers can explain to us how it went from perfectly working fine to totally unsalable in there new Tag update. I'm pretty sure tones of people have called in about this problem but yet they have done nothing about it. It has been pain staking adding products today on our online store when it used to be a breeze.
Agreed! It's pretty bad and frustrating when adding multiple products.
@Shopify Can you please make it where I can type in tags quickly and easily like before? This is a pain!
It's completely awful. I'm wasting so much time waiting for the the stupid thing to load! A list of tags takes forever to show up, then I try to check a box and nothing happens for several minutes, then there are often tags that get applied that are not the correct tags. This is insanely frustrating because I've struggled for months to get enough time to work on the website as much as I need to, and now that I've got enough time to do my thing... I can't do my thing quickly or efficiently because of this stupid tag issue! Shopify, for the love of all that is holy, please fix this!
This exactly what I'm experiencing. Do something, Shopify.
I chatted with customer service and supposedly they've sent over my request to the developing team to revert back to the original admin settings for tagging on my account. I also told them about this forum thread and how I'm not the only one complaining. If everyone does this maybe changes will be made and the frustration will end.
How did you even find the number to call customer service because i cant find any way to call them to save my life!
I been on the phone with them for hours the last couple of days and they said they would escalate the problem to the developers, they also asked me to take a video of the problem and send it to them. I really don't think its rocket science for a developer at shopify to go directly to my site in the backend and try to do tags themselves.
A video?? Seriously? The amount of people replying to this thread is enough evidence that theres an EFFING problem here!
Why should the consumer do extra work in taking a video? They have devs who can do that! Terrible tech support...
+1 - Raised it with support as well, hopefully they can fix asap.
Same problem here. I joined @Shopify a year ago and the tagging system just keeps getting slower and worse in every way. I sell a LOT of 1-off items and this is a HUGE time waster. Go back to any of the previous systems!
Please give the developer who did this a couple a days off!!
Extreme laggy, very time consuming because off the suggestions that choose a random tag while typing!
For real why you do this?? bored ??
Update:
It looks as though the tag section has been reverted to the previous version (what we were all using last week) and is working well again.
With a system as big as Shopify these changes might take time to show for everyone, you can also try clearing your browser cache and refreshing the product page.
A quick note as someone who has been through a botched update before: the product description HTML editor was changed a few weeks ago and was breaking code. It was broken for a couple of days and then reverted to the previous version. A few weeks later it was updated again with the specific issue fixed, but the other changes were still made. So -- this change might return with fixes, keep an eye out and keep testing.
To those who were contacting support, especially those getting frustrated on the phone -- thank you!
It's back! Thanks!
WOW finally................ Now I can start adding more products without having to drink 2 beers while waiting for the tags to load.
It's not super laggy for me-- but I'd take EITHER of the two prior systems over this one for the UI.
I like the 'frequently used' but limiting it to just the top 4 makes it useless for me as I have about ~20 I use frequently. Not being able to sort them and see them all at once makes finding the one I want a pure hassle. Like, just think this out-- I have a two tags starting with the letter T -- I either have to type each out, wait for it to load, click it, or scroll through a giant list to T. Previously, with the pill-style buttons I could see the T's-- and click the ones I want-- simple.
Being able to sort the list in different ways was/is a very necessary basic user interface requirement for something with potentially hundreds of options. Shopify, if I have dozens of tags (which, I do)-- you really think a giant list in a small drop down is useful? Like, at all? Im sorry, its not. This new interface is absolutely half-baked. Having list options like frequently used and alphabetical were really helpful. Being able to see them all as pill-buttons, even better! If anything, add some machine learning suggestions or MORE OPTIONS, not less. Total self-own of reinventing the wheel, and screwing it up.
Adding a comment so Shopify hopefully takes note that no one wants tags to work like this.
This, like the bulk editor "update" are making these features/functions unusable. One more "update" like these and i'll be taking my business to square or big commerce. whomever heads up their UI department needs to be fired. I used to recommend shopify to people, at this point I would tell them don't even think about it.
I would have to agree with you. We are so invested into ours that we have to somehow find a way to make it work. They are getting too big and forgetting all the merchants that got them there in the first place. STOP adding clicks and scrolls to the process and using our precious time running a business. My team is getting frustrated as well, Shopify should be asking us what would help improve the process first I don't care what a screen looks like for data entry as long as it functions the correct way in a time saving process. Shopify needs to step it up and actually read what the community is posting about instead of ignoring it.
I hear you, and changing to a new provider would be a huge headache, but at some point i'm going to have to cut my losses. Every update is just doubling or tripling the time required to carry out basic functions.
Hi, I am a Shopify App dev in Japan.
Not sure if this is the same issue as this thread but may be worth reporting.
From my App, it has observed that an operation adding tags via API has been not received a response, or to take very long time.
(it is a relatively rare situation, almost oneth per day)
As a technical detail, I’d used Admin API for GraphQL and send mutation with addTags.
