Why is Google Search Console taking so long to index my products?

3 0 0

Hello Shopify Community, I hope you're all doing well. I'm facing a pressing issue with Google Search Console and indexing that's been causing significant challenges for my store. I'd greatly appreciate your insights and advice on this matter. Here's the problem: Despite using Shopify as my platform and consistently publishing new articles and products, I've noticed that Google Search Console is taking an unusually long time to index them. In fact, it's been several months now, and the situation is becoming increasingly frustrating. Out of the 7000+ URLs that I've submitted, only around 1700 products have been indexed so far. This delay in indexing is negatively impacting my store's visibility and traffic. I understand that publishing fresh content is crucial for attracting visitors, but with such a prolonged indexing process, it's almost impossible to generate the traffic I need in a timely manner. I've tried various strategies to improve the situation, including ensuring that my sitemap is up to date and submitting individual URLs for indexing manually. However, the results have been minimal, and the majority of my content remains unindexed. I'm reaching out to this community in the hope of finding effective solutions or strategies that could expedite the indexing process. Has anyone else encountered similar issues? If so, how did you manage to resolve them? Are there any specific steps or best practices that I might be overlooking? Any guidance you can provide would be immensely valuable. I'm committed to enhancing my store's performance and driving traffic, but this indexing bottleneck is proving to be a major roadblock. Thank you in advance for your assistance—I'm truly grateful for any insights you can offer.

Hey @Noman_1

I understand the frustration you're experiencing with the delayed indexing of your Shopify store's content on Google. Indexing delays can indeed impact your store's visibility and traffic. Here are some insights and potential steps you can take to address this issue:
Note these are just general practices, see if you missed any.

1. Content Quality and Relevance:
Google tends to prioritize indexing high-quality and relevant content. Make sure that your articles and product descriptions are unique, well-written, and offer value to your audience. Avoid duplicating content across different pages of your site.

2. Sitemap Optimization:
Double-check that your sitemap is correctly set up in Shopify. Your sitemap should include all the important URLs you want to be indexed. Submit your sitemap to Google Search Console and monitor for any errors or warnings related to the sitemap.

3. XML Sitemap Submission:
Along with submitting your sitemap to Google Search Console, you can also submit individual URLs for indexing manually. This can sometimes help accelerate the indexing process for specific important pages.

4. Internal Linking:
Ensure that your important pages are internally linked within your website. Proper internal linking can help Google discover and index new content more efficiently.

5. Backlinking:
Quality external backlinks from reputable sources can also help in indexing and improving your site's overall authority, which could positively impact indexing speed.

6. Mobile-Friendly and Fast Loading:
Google emphasizes mobile-friendliness and fast loading times. Ensure your site is responsive and performs well on mobile devices.

7. Google Search Console Coverage Report:
Regularly monitor the Google Search Console's "Coverage" report to identify any issues Google might be facing while crawling and indexing your pages. Address any errors or issues highlighted in this report.

8. Robots.txt and Noindex Tags:
Double-check that your robots.txt file is not blocking Google from crawling important pages. Also, ensure that you don't have `noindex` meta tags inadvertently added to pages you want indexed.

9. Structured Data and Schema Markup:
Implement structured data and schema markup for your products and articles. This can enhance the appearance of your content in search results and might positively impact indexing.

10. Patience and Consistency:
While it's frustrating, Google's indexing process can sometimes take time. Continue publishing high-quality content, and over time, your indexing rate may improve.

If you've already implemented these strategies and are still facing significant indexing issues, it might be a good idea to consult with an SEO professional or a Shopify expert who can perform a thorough audit of your site and provide tailored advice.

Remember that SEO is a long-term effort, and while indexing delays can be frustrating, focusing on providing valuable content and optimizing your site's technical aspects will contribute to long-term success.

Best of Luck & Thanks

Hi Noman_1,

Thanks for reaching out to the community!

Here are some suggestions for you:

1. Submit XML Sitemap: This sitemap can help search engine crawlers easily crawl and navigate through the website and ensure indexing of every page of the website; thus, you can ensure that all the pages on the website are indexed properly by the search engine.

2. Content Relevancy with Keywords: Add relevant keywords to the website’s content to help search engine crawlers better understand the context of the web pages. Thus, the web source becomes more relevant when such keywords are used, which increases your chances of ranking better on the search engine results page (SERP) whenever that keyword is used.

3. Get Backlinks: Getting backlinks on credible and trusted sources can make it easier for search engine crawlers to find your website, as the crawlers follow the links to all the web sources or web pages on that website. You can get backlinks by:

  1. Creating high-quality informative, educational, and entertaining content that people wish to share
  2. Local SEO and ensuring consistency of NAP to optimize backlinks from local directories
  3. Encouraging customers to post testimonials on different digital platforms
  4. Contact suppliers/distributors/partners to help build links
  5. Link building through social media handles
  6. Guest posting on blog-posting websites

4. Enhance Digital Presence: Enhancing the brand awareness of the website/e-commerce business on digital platforms enhances the credibility of the web source. Search engine crawlers favor credible sources and rank them better on SERP, which can resolve the issue of indexing.

5. Check Robots.txt file: The Robots.txt file is created to block the search engine crawlers from crawling and indexing certain pages of the website. So, you shall check the ‘Robots.txt’ file to ensure that you have not blocked some important web pages.

6. Ensure Mobile Friendliness of the Website: Mobile phones have different servers, and on these servers, only mobile-responsive websites are indexed. Thus, to ensure that your websites are indexed for search queries on mobile phones have mobile-friendly websites.

Hope it helps!
