Re: Footer Menu Problem

Solved

Why is my nested footer menu not displaying correctly?

This is taking up too much time and I feel like the answer is blindly in front of me. Within my footer menu, I have About and nested inside of that is  "Our Company" and "Product Care". Then I have Support and nested inside of that is "Shipping and Delivery", "Refunds and Exchanges" and "Customer Service". All of these are linked to pages that I created with the information for my customers. The problem is that it does not appear that way on my website. The website displays About and Support but underneath both they display the same thing About and Support. The nested items I have created will show up when I am on my footer menu admin page. I am at a loss.

Hey @RandomWear!

Most of the free themes in Shopify do not support nested menus in the footer which is presumably why you are not seeing the desired links when viewing your storefront. Luckily, most themes do allow you to show multiple separate menus in the footer. Here's what I suggest:

1. Create separate menus in your store's navigation settings (Shopify Admin > Online Store > Navigation).

  • Create one menu named 'About - Footer' and then add menu items for your "Our Company" and "Product Care" pages.
  • Create another separate menu named 'Support - Footer' and then add menu items for your "Shipping and Delivery", "Refunds and Exchanges" and "Customer Service" pages.

Here's an example screenshot:

2. After you have created the 2 new menus in the navigation settings, go into the Theme Customizer and add 2 new menu content sections to the store's footer. For each new menu section you should be able to control the Heading and the navigation menu to be used.

  • For one of the menu sections you'll want to set the heading to show as "About" and then use the 'About - Footer' navigation menu using the 'Change' button
  • For the other menu section you'll want to set the heading to show as "Support" and then use the 'Support - Footer' navigation menu using the 'Change' button

Hi, @RandomWear

My name is Rae and I work for Shopify.

I'm sorry to hear about the troubles you're having with your footer menu, and I'd love to lend a hand to help resolve things. I will need to gather a few more details before I can look into this further, though.

So that I can start checking into things, can you please advise:

  • The name of the theme you're using
  • Your website URL

It would also be great if you could include a screenshot showing how the menu looks now so that I can get a better idea of where these issues are stemming from.

Once I have these details, I'll be glad to help further.

Looking forward to hearing back from you!

Hi, @AhmedKing

Thanks for reaching out about this.

Can you please tell me a bit more about the problem you're having with the footer on your site? Are you using a Shopify-developed theme, or a third-party theme?

If you can share some screenshots showing the issue you're encountering, I'll be happy to help take a closer look!

Best,

Hi, @AhmedKing

Thank you for getting back to me with these details.

Robin is a third-party theme that isn't supported by Shopify, so I recommend reaching out to your theme developer directly for more help with the footer on your site. You can do this by following the steps here under 'Paid themes'

Equally, it may also be worthwhile to contact Shopify Experts about this for additional support. Experts are third-party developers and designers who have a lot of experience working on themes built for Shopify, so they're a great resource to consider using to customize your footer. You can contact Experts about this via this link

Best of luck with this!

Hi Kylie,

Loved your answer and wish it was that simple for me. When I go into the footer section of my site (Brooklyn theme) I can only choose one menu and can't select more. Can you please help?

Rachel

Hi @rachelgullo16!

Unfortunately the Brooklyn theme is bit more minimalistic when it comes to footer navigation, so the best option might be to switch to a different theme that offers more flexibility. It's certainly possible to get the Brooklyn theme to support multiple footer menus at once, but that would require some substantial customization to the theme's code.

If you're open to the idea of custom coding, then I would suggest looking for a theme developer on Shopify's Expert Marketplace, found here: https://experts.shopify.com/

Alternatively, if you're open to switching to another theme, then I would suggest taking a look at the following themes (each of which are free and allow for multiple footer menus using the Theme Customizer):

  • Simple
  • Supply
  • Venture
  • Debut
  • Narrative
  • Minimal

Hopefully this helps, Rachel!
