Why is my website still down after DNS changes for SMSBump app?

  • I made some DNS changes to authenticate my domain for the SMSBump app on Google domains more than 24 hours ago and my website is still down. Google says it could just be taking a while but to ask Shopify to look into it and make sure there is not an issue on that end. Help?! It's www.lionandladybugprinting.com

Hi @LionAndLadybug

Thank you for sharing your store URL for us to troubleshoot. I had a look and I can see that some of the DNS settings are still not reporting properly. I will share what I can see on my end with you and if you wanted to share a screenshot of your current DNS setup, I am happy to confirm if it is correct.

  • The subdomain does not point to Shopify. The CNAME records are not valid.
The domain has a CNAME record pointing to u20730004.wl005.sendgrid.net. CNAME (www) record should point to shops.myshopify.com.
  • DNSSEC is active for lionandladybugprinting.com and might be the cause of the resolution failure. If this domain is hosted on a third party, you must disable this with the domain host directly.
  • No reported A @ record. A @ record should point to Shopify IP: 23.227.38.65. There should also only be one of these records in your DNS.

https://dnschecker.org is a great free tool you can use to see what DNS information is being sent out by your domain host. While DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to apply, we do usually see changes start to take effect within a few hours.

Thanks so much! That was the issue and once I corrected the missing Shopify IP it started propagating on dns checker. You are amazing 🙂

Awesome! I can see it started working on my end as well. So happy it was an easy and fast fix!

I love the website and the concept and designs you are offering. I wanted to offer some possible suggestions to help you improve your customer experience, if that's alright.

You have a list of collections on the bottom of your homepage, but you don't have them listed anywhere else. I definitely recommend adding your collections to your navigation menu at the top of the website.

I also love that you are promoting your website's socials so confidently! I recommend moving those banners a bit lower on your home page or moving them to a different area of the website (definitely recommend in the order confirmation email or newsletter signup email). The reason why is that the first thing customers are seeing are links that actually take them from your online store to somewhere else, this breaks the shopping flow, makes it harder for them to come back to the site and could increase dropped carts. The first order of business on your website should be directing customers to your best selling products and encouraging them to complete a purchase. Then show them all your awesome socials.

I hope this feedback was helpful!

My website is unavailable. It was live yesterday. I have never had this issue and I have no customer service numbers and the live chat box is gone. I just released a new line of apparel and now my customers can’t go to my website
