Why isn't my swimwear store converting visitors into sales?

My Wife and I just recently opened our store "Clover Apparel". When we originally opened we were covering all things apparel, however, after the first day of advertising we immediately spotted some things that we would like to change and then ultimately decided to niche down to swimwear only - in order to better focus our advertising and inventory updating efforts. After overhauling the store we did our second round of advertising yesterday.


In total we have used about $200 in ad spend, mainly on TikTok, but some on Facebook and Instagram as well. We have received nearly 1,000 visitors to the store and nearly 11,000 views on TikTok, however, we have not made a single sale.


I read somewhere that the average conversion rate is 3%, if that is the case we should be looking at roughly 30 orders right now. I have looked at everything to try and determine where the problem is and I can't seem to solve it. If somebody could please take a look at our shop and offer any advice it would be greatly appreciated!

Congrats on getting your store up and running!

Think about your visitors as being people who need to be 'warmed up' as consumers before they buy.  So they need to be taken on a journey from being 'cold' about your product/service and not knowing a thing about it, to eventually knowing enough about it and trusting you as a seller, to actually turn into buying customers. 

You've started off the right way by getting people to your website with your ads - great work!  But now you need to reach them again to start increasing that trust and familiarity with your offering.  

You could do with this with:
- an email (if they've signed up to get your newsletters)
- a retargeting ad via TikTok

Turning visitors into customers is an art in itself and service and UX designers talk about 'customer journeys' and 'funnels' - these describe the process.

So if you factor this into your e-commerce strategy, you'll start to see higher conversion rates.

A couple of thoughts.

- Ensure you are optimizing for conversions on your ad platforms. If not, your visitors' intent-to-buy will be much lower.
- Make sure your checkout is functioning correctly

- your product photos look great, however I think your products would benefit from some emotion producing descriptions

Niche specialization, like focusing solely on swimwear, can indeed streamline your efforts and resonate better with your target audience. Congratulations on receiving that much traffic to your online store! When I navigated to your URL, I did notice that you are using the announcement bar on your homepage. What do you think about including a discount code or free shipping offer in the announcement? It is a great way to encourage your visitors to make a purchase.


Add a Contact Us page to the footer of the store. Majority of buyers or potential customers may look for an easy method to reach out to the business. Typically, a website will have the Contact Us page link available in the footer of the store. You can add a Contact Us page to the footer of the store by updating the navigation menu.
