Hey,
Can we expect Shopify native Privacy & Compliance App to become compatible with Google Consent Mode V2?
Or is the use of a dedicated 3rd party App become mandatory ?
Thank you,
Axel
Follow this thread! Would be great if it is!
Would be ideal.
It is taking a long time for Shopify to implement V2. Google kind of demands it now. Should be a standard option in my view.

Shopify Support:
The default Shopify Cookie banner should be sufficient for implementing the Google Consent Mode V2. Merchants can use the default banner without needing to use a different one.
What you need to do is to update the script you are using

but how do i link the cookie banner from Shopify to GTM?
as GTM doesn't detect the click on the "Accept" cookies and my consent remains default - denied. can you please tell me what i am missing?
I have to apologize - I received an update from Support:
To start, I can acknowledge that Shopify does not yet support Google Consent Mode v2 for Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics integrations. We are unable to state if and when Shopify will include support for Google Consent Mode v2, however rest assured that our silence on this topic does not mean that we are not going to support it in the future. Shopify and Google have worked together on a lot of projects already, so I am sure that there will be a solution in due time.
For the time being, I have submitted a feature request to our developers to let them know that you would like to see support for Google Consent Mode v2 as soon as possible. The more feedback we submit the more accurately we can track the demands of our merchants and prioritize improvements to our platform.
Thanks for the answer. Since we are talking about feature request, another requirement for me to use it is the ability to hide the decline button on the banner. To have only accept all and preference button.
Hi, if you want to hide the Decline button for some reason, you can use custom CSS to hide it
#shopify-pc__banner__btn-decline {
display: none !important;
}
You can add this CSS code to your theme's CSS file or through the Shopify theme editor. This will hide the "DECLINE" button from the cookie banner, leaving only the "ACCEPT" and "MANAGE PREFERENCES" buttons visible to the users.
Thats a great Idea. Thanks z4yd4!

Hope this will come soon. 3rd party cookie software like Cookiebot has since a couple of days completely crippled my analytics and my meta pixel stopped working. An absolute nightmare with no solutions online and Shopify support unable to provide any useful information.
I have used app Pandectes today because I don´t want to get into any issues, but it is paid... I hope it will be enough for now, but I would love to see Shopify to add this feature to native background as well...Nina

At the end I used a free App Consentmo GDPR - there is just a very simple thing that has to be added in to the code.

Hi all,
The last update about this topic i got from shopify is the following:
"Our developers are currently in the final stages of integrating Google Consent Mode V2 into Shopify. However, we cannot guarantee when this is expected to roll out. Please be assured that our team is committed to implementing this feature as swiftly as possible. We understand its importance and are working diligently to bring this to you soon. To keep you updated with the most recent changes and added features with our platform, this is a great link to bookmark: Shopify Changelog."

Still waiting for this.
One would think that for the price we pay for Shopify we would get basic updates like these on time.
Still also waiting for Shopify to even be legal in EU out of the box but it is not. They have no native solution for displaying lowest price 30 days before promotion which is required by law in EU.
I would think there are enough merchants in EU that these would be high priority for Shopify.

I am on the same boat I use CookiePro loaded via GTM - We also load GA4 via Shopify so we can have basics GA4 ecommerce events.
I added the consent mode initialization script just above the GTM script in Shopify (the one that sets the consent to "denied" when the page first load). Strangely, my initialization loads and then is overwritten by "something" and that set the consent to "granted" before the user can interact with the cookie banner. It is as if there was another initialization script being fired after my one. If someone has an idea of what could do that, I would be interested to hear.
For people interested, there is a neat little chrome extension that display the consent status for a website, quite useful for testing (https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/consent-mode-inspector-by/phpllnjdcoiijcpgcbhlocjgcegjfnhb )
Does anyone have news from Shopify about this?
Hi All,
spoke with support a couple days ago and they stated it’s fully compliant now combined with the native google app.
when I test in taggassistant I get all granted so I guess it works.
Great news. Thank you Vincent and thank you Shopify. Well done.
how can i check this?
Onno
Hello,
and is it necessary to set up something from my side?
Thank you
Is this in the native shopify consent banner, or another app that you are using?
It’s the native Shopify integration (settings - privacy settings - cookie banner.
and you can check if it’s working via taggassistant
Hi Vincent,
did you setup the consent mode in the native Shopify integration for banner?
I am trying to disable the native consent mode V2 in shopify as it is setting all granted at the beginning of the session.
Hello Vincent
According to the google team, this is not the correct configuration. According to them, the ‘default on page’ values should be ‘denied’ all the time. Accepting cookies should not change this value. We have exactly the same problem. Apps such as pandectes configure this correctly, unfortunately, even with this app the approvals for shopify are displayed in tagassisant.
Not sure but if google their own suggested method of verification is under discussion..
Unfortunately you are right. The official Shopify implementation is not working.
On-page Default is set as Granted but it should be Rejected.
Hi, I'm seeing the update isn't working for thev2 parameters. ad_user_data and ad_personalization remain denied after update via the native Shopify privacy banner.
In addition the defaul is slow to be in possition meaning Ads can run with a not set flag. Is anyone else seeing this???
Please contact us!
I dont understand, is Shopify really not supporting us paying members with this solution??
@VortexVR Correct. Shopify team not help with the any third party integration. they just help for the inbuilt feature provided by Shopify like Customer privacy.
I tested it using the Chrome extension and it appears to be working: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/consent-mode-inspector-by/phpllnjdcoiijcpgcbhlocjgcegjfnhb
Default on load is not set and only after a visitor accepts cookies it turns green. I'm also seeing green checkmarks in the Google Analytic settings. (It shows a warning if no cookie banner is used)
Dear Dries_Pieters,
Did you test your Shopify native solution for Consent Mode 2.0, or one of the available external apps?
Can you show which green checkmark you are referring to for the Google Analytics settings?
This is still not working correctly.
For consent mode v2, the consent state should be Denied by default. When a user accepts, the updated state should become Granted. However, on the Shopify site I am looking at, the initial state before interacting with the banner is showing nothing/unknown:
When I accept the banner it changes to Granted for both the default and updated state:
After refreshing the page, it then changes the default state to Granted, and the updated state returns to unknown:
This is not how it should behave. I have implemented Consent Mode on multiple CMS platforms with no issues, but Shopify is the only one not working correctly. This is how it should appear:
Would be super great. Any news at this time?
Hi, do you have any manual how to implement (Shopify native CMP) it through GTM?

Hi all,
does anyone know how to enable/disable consent mode V2 in Shopify?
We want to manage Consent Mode with GTM but Shopify is placing its Consent Mode in page. we need to disable it. How can we manage it? thanks
Giuseppina
@Giusys Yes, it’s possible! You can disable Shopify’s built-in Consent Mode from your store settings. Just navigate to Online Store > Preferences and adjust the settings there. Let me know if you need further assistance!
