Doing the developer course when inept

Hi, 

I am setting my own boutique and I am kinda flat broke so cannot use a professional service for it. I find the overall set-up process very overwhelming and the technical aspect is a black hole to me. I have followed all the steps but I do not know if there is something glaringly missing. Of course, I am not a programmer or from the IT industry, so not technically minded. However. The shop is mine and a little like car maintenance I want to be able to feel in control of it rather than just look good in it (:-)). IS the shopify certification course relevant to the like of me?
