How Can I add a 1-2 days delay to the shipping confirmation email.

Right now Shopify is sending the shipping confirmation email to customers once I pay/fulfill an order on the back end with my 3pl. But Once I pay the order to them they have 1-3 days processing time before they ship it. So I want to add 1-2 days delay to the shipping confirmation email. Basically I should fulfill the order on the back end and then the customer receives the shipping confirmation email 1-2 days after that. This way I will somewhat account for the processing time of my partner and customers won't be confused as to why their order hasn't been shipped when they received the shipping confirmation email.

Hi @Jessica_Zapiet 👋 but can this PREVENT shopify sending the initial shipping-confirmation notifications from going out?

Yep, my goal is not preventing the initial shopify shipping confirmation email, but simply delaying it for 1-2 days. I think it’s the simplest solution for my case. It’s another thing if it’s possible haha. Can’t shopify flow enable my to do this? Or I was also thinking of creating a custom email template through my esp and requesting to make it a transactional message and put it in place of the shipping confirmation email.

Make sure to file feature request directly with shopify support for controlling notifications, or disabling them.

 

  1. Shopify flow by itself cannot send arbitrary transactional emails to customers, only staff can be notified(emailed) with shopify flow. 👨‍💻 though flow can trigger apis that trigger some notifications.
  2. Shipping-Confirmation notification is always sent; unless the option is manually unchecked in the order fulfillment. The choices are limited as there's no setting to turn off the Shipping-Confirmation notification, or settings/system for orchestrating notifications by merchants.

Afaik the current minimum approach is to customize the shipping notification template to be extremely clear about the process and that this initial email is more of a glorified post-order-pre-shipping-is-being-prepared-but-not-sent-yet-pre-confirmation; 😷. Such as having a step-process indicator table|list|graphic.

I.e. not to be confused with the Out for delivery notification.

I know there are some options to disable emails in plus only like the order confirmation email. May be possible with the shipping confirmation email as well - are you on plus by chance?

Nope, not on plus unfortunately. I guess I will have to work to reduce the processing time as much as possible for now until I get to plus.
