Shopify Functions for point of sale discounts

For our Shopify Plus store, we need to create custom discounts that apply to Point of Sale only. Discounts created with native discounts functionality in Shopify always apply to Online Store and optionally POS. We have tried public apps for discounting in POS but we have experienced performance issues due to the apps being hosted on external servers and consequently not responding quickly when their servers are overloaded.

We have seen examples of Shopify Functions being used to develop solutions for custom discounts. However, those examples are limited to Online Store.

Can Shopify Functions be used to create custom discounts for Point of Sale as well?

You can use Shopify Functions in the POS, but the POS doesn't seem to be consistently applying Functions discounts anymore:

Bumping this up. We need to be able to offer discounts on the POS only.
