Help Needed: Fixing "Blocked by robots.txt" Issue on My Shopify Store

I recently received a notification from Google Search Console stating that 34 pages on my Shopify website are blocked by robots.txt, which is affecting my website's indexing and visibility on Google. I think it is due to changes made to the theme using 3 apps that we installed including SEOANT, Wholesale Lock, Wholesalehelper

Website URL: www.scentualaroma.com

I understand that Shopify automatically generates the robots.txt file, but I would like assistance in:

  1. Reviewing and modifying robots.txt to ensure that important pages (such as product and collection pages) are not blocked.
  2. Allowing Google to index key pages, especially those that may have been restricted in error.
  3. Confirming the correct setup to prevent indexing issues in the future.

Could you please help me override the necessary settings or guide me on how to make these changes effectively?

HI @scentualaroma1

First of all, you need to check the report from Google to see if the 34 pages blocked by robots.txt on your Shopify website are important pages.

The message "Blocked by robots.txt" means that your website’s robots.txt file is preventing Googlebot from crawling those pages. Some Shopify URLs are intentionally blocked by robots.txt to protect your SEO—the cart page is one example. You can find more details on Shopify’s robots.txt guide here.

  • If these 34 pages include cart, checkout, or pages with long parameter strings, then no changes are needed, as this setup is correct.
  • However, if they include important pages that you need to be indexed, you can modify the robots.txt file to change "disallow" to "allow."

You can access this file by going to Theme > Edit Code > robots.txt.liquid.

If you're not comfortable working with code, you can use the Avada SEO Suite app. Our Pro Plan allows you to edit the robots.txt file directly within the app.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions.

Best,
Daisy
