How to Code Dropdown Menu With Product Images for Flavors

I have been troubleshooting for days and cannot figure out how to have a product flavor dropdown menu that includes a small product image on the left of the flavor name. It is only rendering the most basic of dropdown menus. I've installed many programs, have tried react/select, etc. Nothing is working. What is the simplest way to  code this? The image is our goal look.
