Hi there,

My website is so slow on the desktop browser! I optimized the photos, deleted unnecessary apps, and I'm using a free theme so no complicated features here, but it is still very slow and I have customers who messaged me about the issue, and I feel its the main reason why my sales went down. Any advice?

here is my website: www.suzanqwqart.com

Hello @suzanQwq,

This is Gina from flareAI app helping Shopify merchants get $5Million+ in sales from Google Search, on autopilot.

If you've already optimized your images and removed unnecessary apps but your Shopify site is still slow on desktop browsers, here are some additional tips.

1. Minimize HTTP requests
Each extra script and stylesheet you add to your website increases the number of HTTP requests, which can slow down your website. You can minimize HTTP requests by removing any unnecessary scripts and stylesheets from your website.

2. Optimize your code
Make sure your code is clean and optimized, without unnecessary code or scripts that slow down your website. You can use tools like Google PageSpeed Insights to identify any issues with your code.

3. Use a faster Shopify theme
If you're using a free theme and it's still slow, consider upgrading to a paid theme that's optimized for speed. Shopify has many fast and lightweight themes that can significantly improve the speed of your website.

4. Reduce the size of your pages
The more content you have on a page, the longer it will take to load. Consider breaking up your content into multiple pages or using pagination to reduce the size of your pages.

5. Use a website monitoring tool
Use a website monitoring tool to monitor your website's speed and uptime. This can help you identify any issues with your website and address them promptly.

6. Reduce the size of your images
Even if you've optimized your images, they may still be too large. Consider using a tool like JPEGmini to compress your images further.

7. Use lazy loading
Lazy loading is a technique that only loads images and other content when the user scrolls down to them, rather than loading all content at once. This can significantly improve the initial load time of your website.

By implementing these additional tips, you should be able to further improve the speed of your Shopify website and provide a better user experience for your visitors.

After inspecting the website I found this error:

Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 504 ()

and another error of font request failure.

Also there was an error with fbevents requests, so I ended up deleting Facebook sales channel app  which is sad because I need it. Not sure if it was the source of the problem though, but seems like the website speed is better now!

You need to work on the following points:

  • Theme Upgrade if there is a scope and upgraded theme available
  • Reduce JS Payload.
  • Use Critical CSS.
  • Replace GIFs With Static Images
  • Reduce Large Image Sizes
  • Migrate Tracking Codes To Google Tag Manager
  • Compress Images
  • Limit Third-Party JavaScript & Shopify Apps
  • Preload Web Fonts.
  • I suggest limiting it to one and using a standard web font.

By fixing these issues, your website speed score can definitely improve.
