Change in cropping options

We are irate at the changes made to the product image cropping tools available in Shopify. We have designed our online store/website with the Shopify tools in mind. So when we chose to have our product images at a 3x4 ratio, it was because that was a size available in the Shopify cropping tools. Now that they have changed their cropping tools so that ratio option is no longer available, we find that we have to go through clunky processes like changing the file size (though it auto chooses the cropping so often times that won't work as we may need to recenter the cropping). Or we could use a bulk cropping app, but this is so much clunkier of a process and it also chooses the cropping automatically so often times it will not work as well. In which case we have to download images from shopify and use photoshop to adjust them and then re-upload them to shopify. We have thousands of product images on our store and we depend on a tool that was previously available to crop them. It makes no sense to take a functional tool and literally make it less functional. Please make an option where you can choose your own ratio for cropping and/or include the ratios that were previously included.  We get frustrated at the constantly changing shopify as often the "improvements" are not improvements at all but make things less intuitive, but this goes beyond that to actually make Shopify less functional! This is unacceptable!

I understand the frustration this may have caused to some merchants though, it would be best to reach out directly regarding this feedback so, they can forward your concern to their developer to further check. You can reach out to them by going through their Shopify Help Center and enter your concern on AI chat box, respond to it until the "I still need help" or "chat with a support advisor" option appear.

Yes, Totally doesn't make sense!  We have used a 5x7 size for years, now i have to resize my 1000 products? Are you kidding me? Were you able to resolve in a simple way? Thanks

I'm also not stoked that they removed different crop aspect ratios. I've been using 5:7 on product images and now it's gone.

I've just discovered this issue in my store too. Hours down the drain!!

Have you found a resolution to this or at least a workaround? I've been airdropping the images to my phone,  cropping them in the photo app, then airdropping them back to my computer. It's so tedious and time consuming.  If you've found a better way since your initial post, please share.

Try the steps below from your theme editor.This resizes all product images on the collection pages to "portrait" and I now edit all my new products to the "portrait" size in the shopify image editor. You could do the same for "product pages" if you want. I  didnt because i use a square image size for accessories and I just wanted my collection pages to be cohesive. I hope this helps.
