Does Shopify offer any consumer protection from stores they support. Selene Teeth, www.seleneteeth.com, is a store that uses Shopify and they have the worst customer service. They send out defective products and then will not get back to you for refunds. If you support these kinds of businesses then you essentially supporting companies that steal from people. Not a good look.

Hi @Proycdn

Let me clarify how Shopify works when it comes to consumer protection. Shopify is a platform that allows businesses to build and manage their online stores, but they don’t actively manage or oversee the individual businesses using their services. This means Shopify doesn’t directly intervene in disputes between customers and stores.

That said, Shopify does take fraudulent activity seriously. If a store violates Shopify’s policies (e.g., scams or selling counterfeit products), you can report it directly to them. Here’s what you can do:

  1. Submit a Complaint to Shopify: Shopify has a page where you can report problematic stores. Visit Shopify's Report a Merchant page, fill out the form, and explain your issue clearly. Include proof, such as emails, receipts, or photos of defective products.
  2. Contact Your Payment Provider: If you paid by credit card, PayPal, or another secure method, reach out to your payment provider. They often have buyer protection policies and may be able to assist with chargebacks or refunds.
  3. Leave a Public Review: Sharing your experience through reviews or social media can warn other customers about potential issues with the store and encourage the business to address their practices.

As for Shopify itself, they don't actively support businesses like Selene Teeth if those businesses engage in fraudulent behavior. However, they rely on customer feedback and reports to identify and take action against stores that break their policies. While Shopify isn’t perfect, they are responsive when complaints pile up.

From my perspective, it’s always a good idea to prioritize stores with strong reputations, verified customer reviews, and transparent refund policies. Unfortunately, the openness of platforms like Shopify means that not every business operates ethically, so staying vigilant is key.

If you need help drafting a report to Shopify or guidance on getting a refund through your bank, I’d be happy to walk you through the process.

Best regards,
Daisy
