Feedback for your online store from the community
Hi Shopify Community,
We're an independently owned record store. We're working on website improvements and would like some feedback on our current site and how to get where we hope to go.
Our site is freshproducerecords.com (if it helps we have about 6,000 unique items on our site).
Here are some things we want to do:
Increase efficiency of displaying our inventory
Increase conversion
Update font
Redo color theme/layout
Decrease unused real estate
Make it easier to showcase variety of music/titles
Alphabetizing artists as we add new inventory
Adding a megamenu
Update a collection automatically based on an item's status as a "recent restock"
Thanks! : )
Hi @FreshProduced,
Thanks for reaching out to the community. We are MooseDesk, a comprehensive Live Chat, FAQ & Helpdesk App designed to elevate your customer support experience.
Congrats on your new store! Your store looks stunning. I can tell you have put a lot of effort into building this. However, I have some comments to make the good get even better. Here are some of my recommendations for better customer experience, please kindly check.
1. Add a Favicon Image:
A favicon is a small but effective tool for brand awareness. By adding a favicon, your customers can easily recognize your store among the multiple tabs they have open while browsing.
Here is an example for you:
2. Update Font for Readability:
Consider updating the font to a more modern and readable style. A clean, simple font can greatly enhance the user experience and make your content easier to read.
3. Use a Neutral Background: The current yellow background is quite bright and can distract customers from focusing on your content and products. A more neutral background would make your site look more professional and allow your products to stand out more.
4. Differentiate Headings and Body Text:
Differentiating the headings from the body text (e.g., using bold or larger font sizes for headings) can help customers easily scan and find information, improving their overall browsing experience.
5. Simplify the Navigation Menu:
The current navigation menu is quite lengthy, which might confuse customers. Consider grouping similar items into categories and subcategories to streamline the navigation. Also, switching from a hamburger menu to a horizontal navigation menu could be more suitable, especially for desktop users.
You can follow this example:
6. Increase Visibility of the Account Section:
The "Account" section for customer login is currently too small and may be overlooked. Increasing the font size and making it more visible will help users find it more easily.
This is the section I mention:
7. Dedicated Sales Promotion Section:
A dedicated section for sales promotions would draw attention to special deals and encourage purchases. The current layout seems to obstruct the navigation menu, and the dismissible notification may not effectively highlight promotions.
8. Revise the Hero Banner:
The hero banner is the first thing customers see, so it's essential to make it engaging. Include a compelling description and a clear call-to-action (CTA) button that directs visitors to your product collection page to increase engagement.
9. Remove the "View All" Button:
The "View All" button seems unnecessary, as customers can already click on the section to explore more. Removing it could streamline the look of your site.
This is the section I mention:
10. Reconsider Product Display on the Homepage:
It's generally best to keep the homepage clean and focused on guiding customers deeper into the site. Consider removing direct product displays from the homepage.
11. Add an "About Us" Section:
Including an "About Us" section helps build an emotional connection with your customers, making them more likely to trust and buy from you.
12. Include a "Reviews and Testimonials" Section:
This section would allow customers to see feedback from others, which can build trust and encourage sales.
13. Revamp the Footer:
Your footer should include social media links so customers know where to follow you. Also, consider moving your contact information to the footer for easy access. This will make your site look more professional and complete.
14. Consistent Image Sizes on Product Collection Pages: E
Ensure that all images on the product collection page are the same size. This will give your store a more professional appearance.
This is one of the examples. You should check across your website; those images are not the same size.
15. Improve Product Descriptions:
Consider breaking product descriptions into sections with headings. This format helps customers quickly find the information they’re interested in without feeling overwhelmed by text. Also, using bold headings can help distinguish sections and improve readability.
You can follow this example:
16. Create an FAQ Page and Add a widget:
An FAQ page can address common customer concerns and reduce the need for direct inquiries. Additionally, adding a widget for submitting tickets or starting a chat can improve customer support.

Hi @FreshProduced,
Thanks for reaching out to the community. I'm Tracy from BON Loyalty.
This website has a really good impression at first glance, the color yellow-black serves the purpose of catching attention pretty well. After reading your expectations for this store, here are some of my suggestions for you:
1. Improve website design
- Adding a favicon to your website will help increase the credibility of your online store.
- This notification should not be placed in this position because it affects the layout of the homepage. Additionally, too much text will make shoppers easily skip over it without reading. I think you should place this notification in a pop-up and have it appear when customers are viewing your homepage for better effectiveness.
- This section should have an additional CTA button leading customers to the Contact Us page.
- The menu needs to be reorganized: You shouldn’t list all the collections, but rather divide them into categories like Record Labels, Genres, Best Sellers, and New Arrivals. For the remaining collections, you can group them into one category and name it All Collections. Similarly, for Shipping, Refund, and Contact, you can group them together and name it Our Policy.
2. Enhance Upsell Mechanics:
- Product Recommendations: On product pages, display related items, such as “Customers who bought this also bought” or “You might also like” sections.
- Bundle Offers: Create bundle offers that combine records from the same genre or artist, offering a discount if purchased together.
- Cross-Selling at Checkout: During checkout, suggest additional items based on what’s in the cart, such as record sleeves, cleaning kits, or other accessories.
- Post-Purchase Upsells: After a purchase is completed, offer limited-time deals or discounts on related products.
3. Increase sales using promotional Strategies:
- Email Marketing: Segment your email list by genre preferences and send targeted offers or new release alerts.
- Loyalty Programs: Implement a loyalty program where customers earn points for purchasing within certain genres, which they can redeem for discounts on future purchases.
Hope this will help you improve your website performance! Good luck 😉

Wow, you've already received some great feedback! Since you have SO MANY amazing products, I'd recommend finding a mega menu that has an automatic product import function.
Meteor Mega Menu would be a powerful addition to your storefront since it can populate menu items automatically. This might save you some serious time.
Here's a SHORT video about it: https://youtu.be/L0Lehv180Ns
Good luck 😊
