Frustrated Dog and sales. HELP fam.

Happy Monday Shopify Fam!

I hope everyone had a GREAT weekend!  I am going to start by saying thank you in advance to everyone for any advice, feedback and/or recommendations.

I have been running my shopify store since fall of last year and i havent had any sales on my website.  I keep going in changing it around, adjusting pricing, products but I have yet to receive any sales.  I am someone living with a disablility and i created this business as a means to generate additional income and "part time" work with my service dog, Mickey.


I am not sure if its my website, pricing, products or what that is resulting in people not wanting to purchase. 


I would love any advice you all could offer a lost poor soul and his fur baby, Mickey.

Thanks for sharing a little bit about you. I genuinely want you to succeed so I am going to give you my honest feedback here.


This is something we see very commonly on the forums. People tend to start shops selling things like jewelry, clothing, tech and etc. The problem with this is that these types of items can be already be purchased offline in hundreds retail stores as well as online through thousands and thousands of online stores. So when a person is searching for an iphone charger or earbuds in Google, these big companies with massive marketing budgets are who is showing up in search results and who you are competing with for customers. Now, a person can complete IF they give people a reason to purchase from them vs. the other guys. An example of this might be someone who sells these items locally, their "reason" as to why you should purchase from them vs the other guy is because they are local and a lot of people are passionate about shopping local and you can get them their products faster, perhaps you even offer free local delivery.

If you cannot find a way to set yourself apart in the market, it is time to move on to a different product. A good product choice should have these qualities:

  1. High demand. Look for "problem fixing products".
  2. Not easily accessible. Look for products that are not available in stores or online through big retailers or Amazon.
  3. Popular. Look for trending products.
  4. Good profit margin. We recommend 3x what the product costs you.

Once you have settled on your winning product/products, you can expand your sales channels and promote your products on Google Shopping using the AllFetch Google Shopping Feed app (it's free). It allows you to easily syncing your products from your Shopify store to the Google Merchant Center.

I would encourage you that I think you and Mickey could do great, I would advise that instead of something general like tech products that you instead create a store around things that help you personally, products that you are passionate about and would recommend to anyone who has similar abilities.

Happy Monday to you and Mickey as well! First of all, congrats on the store. I know it’s frustrating to see few sales, but you need to give yourself more credit. You’ve done a great job here, and that time and effort will pay off. 

Since you’re questioning why you aren’t making sales, I would suggest two things first:

  1. Stop adjusting or changing before evaluating your visitors. Watch session recordings, which show you everything someone did while on your site, to see what’s stopping them from converting. Do they engage? Do they bounce?
  2. Run a survey asking visitors, “What stopped you from checking out today?” You can determine if it’s your website, your pricing, etc. Get anonymous insight from them. You can then go back and watch what happened during their session with session recordings.

In general:  

  • Announcement bar: Link it and simplify the message. “Free standard shipping” is going to be more impactful than “Free Standard Shipping is ALWAYS standard at the Micky&Me Company.” Make sure it shows on ALL pages. 
  • Chat: I’m so glad you have chat, but you have dueling chat options. Stick with one to help your customers. The left-justified chat icon covers some of your hamburger menu. 
  • Main navigation: Move your logo to the left and expand your main navigation on desktop. This will help your header from having so much extra white space. 
  • Hero image: Focus on one rather than multiple to simplify. Also, play around with different colors for your CTA to see if it can stand out more. Use a click heatmap, which shows you where people click, to see if people engage with it.
  • General homepage layout: Simplify if. Right now it’s way too cluttered with things that don’t matter to your average buyer. If you use a scroll heatmap, see how far down the page people scroll. What do they miss? Highlight your collections under your hero image rather than burying it mid-page. I would suggest removing the multiple products featured on your homepage. Evaluate with a click heatmap for more insight.
  • Newsletter: Add more value. Remember that visitors don’t know why they should buy from you, so they don’t know why they should subscribe to your email. Think about value like a discount.
  • Footer: Add a Contact Us page and an About Us page. You have an incredible story to share, but it doesn’t need to be on the homepage. Introduce Mickey and why you opened the store. Don’t stay generic here. Make this your own. Also, put your email address and phone number in the footer for easier access in case people want to contact you. 
  • Policy pages: Link your email address. 
  • Collection pages: Add filters to sort by color, collection, phone model, material, etc. Also, be mindful of your product names. They get a little keyword heavy, which isn’t helpful to your visitors.

The biggest issue I have is with your product pages. Watch session recordings to see if people are making it here and what they do. 

  • Reiterate free shipping near the top of the page. 
  • Simplify the product name
  • Optimize your description. It sounds more like a dropshipper rather than a real store. How would you want to read it? Block text is notoriously hard to read. Move it higher on the page. If you don’t know what Klarna is, you won’t understand it. 
  • Put your photos in a gallery rather than displayed vertically. It requires excessive scrolling, and it does more hard than good. 
  • Add in reviews! That’s a powerful factor that determines whether or not someone trusts your site. 

I know it sounds like a lot, but it comes down to finding out what your visitors experience and improving it. When you learn their pain points and conversion hurdles, you can stop guessing and start knowing exactly what you need to fix. Hope you are doing well.

I understand how it can be frustrating to be doing everything right but still not getting your traffic converted to sales. You may find comfort in knowing that you're not the only one on that boat. Millions of Shopify store owners are facing the same problem. This is not because you are necessarily doing something wrong, but rather because Sales is an organic process, involving people getting to know you, visiting your brand, looking at your products, comparing them with others, and finally making the decision to purchase from you. So this takes some time, during which you have to hold on tight. But, you can't be just passively waiting for sales to grow, so I would recommend you look at these tips and see which ones you can use: You have great faith in your online shop, but why aren’t visitors converting?

Another Thing you could consider: Not all traffic is good traffic.

Traffic will only have any chance of converting to sales if they are being generated by the right consumer. If your product is for females under the age of 30, but your ads are being viewed by males over 50, that is a lot of traffic, but it will never convert to sales. So, before you spend on targeting, a good idea is to have a simple Google Trends search, that will tell you who is looking for the products you search, what is their age, gender and location. Then you can put forward some really targeted ads that are bound to generate clicks.
