Feedback for your online store from the community
Hey guys,
So as part of my task to increase my clients SEO, I have a list of canonical URLs with no incoming internal links.
Essentially, all my collection pages are linking to Link A when ideally thay should be linking to Link B (Link B being the canonical URL)
For example:
Collection page is linking to:
Link A: https://www.hclothing.com/collections/mens-womens-organic-t-shirts/products/organic-cotton-crew-neck...
When it should be linking to:
Link B: https://www.hclothing.com/products/organic-cotton-crew-neck-t-shirt
And I'm wondering if there's anyway I can sort this, as I'm not sure how - would appreciate some help.
Thanks in advance!
Hi @SamFarwell ,
Here are a few ways you could address the canonical URL issue:
Update Internal Links: Go through your collection pages and update the links from Link A to Link B. This will ensure that all internal links are pointing to the canonical URL.
Set Up 301 Redirects: If you can't update all the internal links immediately, you can set up 301 redirects from Link A to Link B. This will pass link equity to the canonical URL and prevent any potential duplicate content issues.
Update the Canonical Tag: In the HTML head section of the product page, add a canonical tag that points to the correct canonical URL (Link B). This will signal to search engines which URL should be considered the authoritative version.
<link rel="canonical" href="https://www.hclothing.com/products/organic-cotton-crew-neck-t-shirt" />
Check for Duplicate Content: Ensure that the content on Link A and Link B is not exactly the same. If it is, consider consolidating the content onto the canonical URL (Link B) to avoid any potential duplicate content issues.
Monitor Search Performance: After implementing these changes, monitor the search performance of the canonical URL (Link B) to ensure it's ranking and driving traffic as expected. You can use tools like Google Search Console to track any improvements.
Remember, consistency and diligence are key when addressing canonical URL issues. Regularly review your internal linking structure and make updates as needed to ensure your site's SEO is optimized.
