Re: Store design and conversion

How to improve conversion rate for a new print on demand store?

Hello everyone, I've recently started a new print on demand store and was hoping I could get some feed back on what was going wrong. https://thanksfornothingus.com . It's only been up about two weeks now and has done 3.56k sessions. But when I look at the metrics my bounce rate is 97% and my session duration is only 20 seconds. Can someone please take a look and help with feed back on what I could change to help convert users to customers?

There's nothing technically 'wrong' or 'broken' with the site ... but it doesn't look very professional.

  • Your design choices, where the background isn't the same colour as the background of your product images, is kind of weird.
  • Your navigation menu is lacking. I'd ditch the drop-down menu for Shop, and just have each of the categories be main menu options.
  • Your logo looks super-blurry and not professional.
  • You don't have any about/contact/policy pages, which is are the bare-minimum your site should have.
  • Your products don't have any sizing guides - so people aren't able to confidently choose which size will fit them.
  • You don't have a lot of products to pick from (only 1-3 products per category), so there aren't a lot of choices for your potential customers.
  • I'd also probably change the number of products per row, on collection pages, as it's really hard to see the designs (without having to click into the product), when there's 4 products per row.
  • You don't have a favicon (little icon that shows next to the site name in the browser)
  • You're using a free theme that hasn't really been customized ... at the risk of sounding really harsh here, it looks like you spent less than an hour on this site.

With all of the above aside, you may want to rethink how you're marketing the site. If you're getting a bunch of sessions, and they're leaving within 20 seconds on average, then you're either: (1) targeting the wrong people, (2) getting a bunch of bots, or else (3) the unprofessional look of the site isn't making a good first-impression and is scaring people away.

There's a lot of room for improvement here. Keep working on the site, as well as your marketing efforts, and it can only get better! 🙂

Hi @Tanner3,

This is Kate from PageFly - Shopify Landing Page Builder App.

I love your store’s products, they look so trendy 😍.

In addition to the suggestions from StephensWorld, and based on my extensive knowledge in CRO, I recommend the following suggestions to improve your conversion rates:

1. Add store favicon

Favicon make it easier for users to locate and return to your store when multiple tabs are open in a browser. This improves the overall user experience.

2. Add a hero banner to the homepage, particularly for a clothing store

Your homepage is missing a hero banner. A hero banner is often the first visual element a visitor encounters. For a clothing store, it sets the tone and style of your brand, making a strong first impression.

A high-quality, attractive hero banner can make your store more visually appealing, engaging customers right from the start.

You can check this design for preference:

3. Add more content on the homepage

  • Trust badges: This is especially important in the online sale, where customers are often concerned about product quality and payment security.

  • Product list along with pricing:  It provides a quick overview of what your store offers, saving them the effort of navigating to different pages to discover your range. By displaying a range of prices, you cater to customers with different budgets. This inclusivity can widen your customer base, as visitors can easily find products within their price range.
  • Add a shoppable social media feed into your store: where customers can see and buy products directly from your social media posts. This makes shopping easier and shows off how your products look in different styles. It's a great way to keep up with the trend of people shopping more on social media.

4. Display product variant as color swatches

Color swatches simplify the shopping process by allowing customers to quickly see all available colors. This visual approach is more user-friendly than text descriptions. And also add a visual element to product listings, making them more attractive and engaging for customers.

5. Prepare for Valentine sales

As Valentine's Day gets closer and many stores start their sales, remember to use these expert tips to improve your plans for the holiday.

  • Create themed packages like Valentine's gift sets. Offer deals like "buy one, get one free", discounts for couples, or special sets for two.
  • Add a countdown timer for limited-time offers, Valentine's sales, or to show when a product is running out. This can really catch customers' attention.
  • Promote your Valentine's Day deals with Google Ads. This can help you reach more people who are looking for Valentine's Day gifts and ideas.
