Need suggestions

Hello,

I have been running a shopify store for a few years as a side hustle.

I offer tabletop gaming items and related items (apparel/phone cases/patches). I also see my items on other platforms (shapeways) where I am part of a larger marketplace and get most of my sales there. Over the last year I have watched my sales go down even on the marketplace sites.

 

I currently use hotjar to see how people are using my site. I use their popup survey and get feedback saying my items are too expensive or they would find what they want, but  they do not provide any further info.

 

So that brings me to looking at optimizing my shopify store and am currently focusing on the following:

1. creating more products

2. looking for ways to increase traffic - currently using social media and industry related forums to promote (trying to keep expenses down as much as possible).

3. I'm looking to building up my back links

4. I will be focusing on specific products to ask influencer to promote my site.

 

Beyond that I would like feedback and suggestions from you on what you would do to improve the site.

 

- fyi - I am a web developer so can make changes myself

Thanks for the feedback. From the sales aspect my sales have been on a downward path for the last year. My product niche is very recreational and looking at my competitors on dibbs and moz I see they are having lower traffic and possibly sales as well.  As for your suggestions

 

1. slide show we use to have one but was getting flagged as being too heavy on the download size. even though I reduced the creative. I had one in for my black friday and cyber monday promo. I will be adding some in to spotlight different collections to help funnel visitors from the front page to specific items.

 

As for the suggestion of showing prices  the qty of collection will be growing  as I add more products. basically the collection to a point focus on a faction in the game. Think sports teams, movie franchises, music bands etc..  So I think even showing most recent or top 10 sellers in each collection will get really long. Unless you were thinking something else.

How about you stick with a particular niche? Im not understanding Im in a very specific niche tabletop war gaming. can you clarify?

 

What sort of marketing have you done?

I have added seo oriented apps to my shop,

I have added niche specific wording,

I have feeds in to google, bing  and social media platforms.

I use tools to simalpost to FB, twitter, IG, Pinterest, Medium, Tumpler, & Reddit when I post new products.

I post on various industry forums with updates.

Recently I used Tagboola I got lots of traffic but no sales.

 

My goal is to do as much no / low cost marketing that I can

I am using Diib.com, Moz and Hotjar to help me evaluate my site and see how customers are using it.

 

Feed back from hot jar is a mix of couldn't find what I want or your products are too expensive

For too expensive I am limited as my prices are tied to the cost of printful or shapeways  and my markup is either inline or less than other competitor sites.

As for the cant find what I want I changed the hotjar to what are you looking for so I can use it to define what products people want.

3. Add a section about your brand story

A brand story helps customers understand more about your business and also helps your store look more professional. There are many ways to improve your content when you tell about your brand story, it’s also a good way to show with the customer who you are, what you are selling. 

 

4. Add Testimonials - Customer Reviews

  • Customer reviews are proof of your product quality. This section will help you build customers' trust. You can show rating stars for each review and you can also add customers’ photos above their names to enhance trust in what they say, like this:

  • Reviews are crucial when it comes to shopping online. 

Besides, you can add blogs or reviews of your customer as testimonials. You can use third-party reviews apps such as: Loox, Yotpo, or Judge.me, etc. 

 

5. Always Highlight Core Product and Brand Features

You need to summarize and highlight core product and brand features, including key product details and attributes, free shipping available, and return policy information on your homepage, so that the customers can quickly evaluate not only a site’s product catalog, but also the brand’s policies, value proposition, and trustworthiness, from the homepage.

 

6. Have a newsletter on your homepage

Having a newsletter on your site, customers can subscribe to their emails to receive product information, any sales campaign, etc from your store. Well done!

I strongly recommended you just collect the customers’ Email address rather than other information; redundant information like User Names would eventually lead the behaviour of closing the website. more additional operation, means more lost. You can also take a look at those websites that sell better, most of them only need users to fill in Email.

 

Add some consumers’ comments

I checked your website, and there are no reviews your products. I strongly suggest you add some user comments to get more user attention. After reading the reviews, they will have a better understanding of the product and improve their trust.

 

User interview

It’s not a an efficient way to use pop-up window to collect user feedback. If you want to know more about customers’ ideas, you’d better do deep research of customers. You can use emails, questionnaires or phone calls to reach their real motivation and thoughts.
