People reaching checkout and not purchasing

We have a Shopify store called “Wildwheelies.com” selling DIY Wheelie Machine plans and tutorials and usually have 1 sale for every 100 people coming into our landing page however today we’ve had 870 sessions and 3 purchase's. there’s been plenty of people to checkout but still no conversions. We have not changed any features in our store’s backend and unsure why this is happening

an extra note, we are using meta ads and organic instagram and Facebook traffic

does anyone know why this is happening?

Hi @Wildwheelies Welcome to the Community!

Thanks for providing the URL, I have looked into your site page and you have done a great work but while taking a deep dive I found some issues that you can fix.

Home Page:

  • Scroll Section: The scroll section in the homepage can be styled better as right now it doesn't look professional, you need to have heading in a different line and the other text in other line, or you can add those heading in the video and under that the normal text can go, also if you can trim the text so that every column should have same height then it will look more attractive.
  • Show me more info Button: The button is not working and when I have clicked on it, it landed me on a 404 page, so you need to fix this.
  • other suggestions: As right now when customer lands on the home page they need to click on the menu sidebar to explore your product or booking option, you can add the button under sections so that they can directly click on that and land on those pages, as the longer they travel from 1 page to another the lesser they get interested to complete the purchase.

Product Page:

  • Buy now button: If you check the buy now button on the image(talking about green one) is not showing the arrow when you hover on it, you can do it by yourself and see what I am talking about.
  • Customer have to scroll a lot to see the exact image and price of the product as usually the product pages are not like that, your product info and prices are the first thing on your product page, and later on you can add all the other information, if you don't want to change the current design of the page then you can do a workaround and add a sticky Buy now button on the page so that even if the customer is on some other section in the product page they can still buy the product from that button.
  • Scroll Section: Same suggestion as mentioned in the home page.
  • Review Stars: The stars image that you have added in the review is not looking good, anyone can detect that you have just added the image, rather than you should have added the svg, or icon that will look better.
  • Other Pages Access: There is no way that customer can go to other page once they land on the product page, if you want you site like this then no issues, but its a great exercise if you give customer free hand if they want to look into other option of your site.

Privacy Policy Page: I have looked into the page and you need to edit it as the store URL is not correct and along with the you haven't added some important information.

Footer:

  • Add heading:  Add heading in the footer section where you have added the email and contact number, you should add email: "Your company email", phone no: "Your no".

NewsLetter Subscription: You should have newsletter subscription option so that customer can add their email and once they added there email, you can use that email for your email marketing to increase your sales.

Facebook Ads: You should track your ROAS and are you targeting the correct audience, are you trying A/B Testing, what ads creative you are using, you need to track all of this things.

If you will need any help in implementing the above points on your store then I'm happy to do this for you, let me know. I can implement the changes so that this will work well for you.

Hopefully it will help you. If yes then Please don't forget hit Like and Mark it as solution!

It sounds like you might be experiencing issues with your sales funnel or landing page effectiveness. Check your checkout process for any obstacles or errors, and review your ad targeting to ensure it aligns with your audience. Additionally, consider A/B testing your landing page to see if different elements affect conversion rates.

Hi @Wildwheelies,

It’s Kate here from PageFly, a Shopify Landing Page Builder app. Congrats on launching! Your store looks fantastic and it's clear you've put a lot of thought into it. I know it can be a bit discouraging if you're not seeing the traffic or sales you'd like, so I wanted to share some tips that could help boost your store's performance:

Homepage

The announcement bar has clear and engaging content. However, making it a sticky bar would keep it visible at all times, increasing the FOMO effect and encouraging users to make a purchase on their first visit.

Each section should fit on one screen to make it easier for users to quickly understand the content without scrolling. This improves readability, helps them find important information faster, and creates a cleaner, more organized look for your website. It also enhances the user experience and makes the site feel more professional.

The layout of this section seems disorganized, which can make your site look unprofessional and reduce credibility. I recommend adjusting it for a cleaner, more trustworthy appearance.

Product page

Your product page is missing a navigation bar, making it difficult for users to browse other pages without returning to the homepage. This impacts the overall user experience.

Additionally, there's no footer on the site. I recommend adding a phone number, email, and address for easier contact. Including testimonials and trust badges can boost credibility. You may also want to incorporate interactive elements like sliders or videos to make the site more engaging for visitors.

Consider adding email capture features, like pop-ups or banners, to grow your marketing list. Highlighting current promotions or discounts effectively on the homepage and product pages can attract more customers. Acquiring backlinks from reputable sources and avoiding links from third-party or untrusted sites will help enhance your SEO.

Track user behavior, sales, and conversion rates using Google Analytics and Shopify Analytics. Actively seeking customer feedback and incorporating it into your improvements will help continuously enhance the shopping experience. These steps should enhance user experience, boost SEO, and ultimately increase conversions on your Shopify store.

By focusing on these areas, you can significantly enhance your store’s user experience and drive more conversions. I hope you find these tips helpful for your Shopify store. Let’s continue to support each other in optimizing our stores!

Cheers! Kate | PageFly Team

Hi @Wildwheelies

I’ve gone through your question and situation carefully, and I see exactly why this is frustrating—you’re getting traffic, people are reaching checkout, but for some reason, they’re not following through with the purchase. Since you haven’t changed anything in your store’s backend, the drop in conversions is likely due to external factors or hidden friction in the checkout process. Let’s break it down and figure out what’s going on.

Possible Reasons for Checkout Drop-offs & Solutions

1. Unexpected Extra Costs (Shipping, Taxes, Fees)

  • A common reason people abandon checkout is hidden fees appearing at the final step. Even small changes in tax or shipping costs can push customers away.
  • Solution: Try a test checkout yourself and confirm that all costs appear transparently from the beginning. Also, consider offering free shipping or bundling costs into the product price.

2. Technical Issues in Checkout

  • Even if you haven’t changed anything on your end, Shopify updates or third-party apps could cause checkout glitches.
  • Solution:
    • Use Shopify's Live View to see if users are repeatedly dropping off at the same step.
    • Go to Settings > Checkout and review whether your payment settings are still correct.
    • Try placing a test order using different payment methods to check if there are any errors.

3. Payment Gateway Problems

  • If customers can’t complete their payment due to a gateway issue, they’ll leave without buying.
  • Solution:
    • Check Shopify Payments > Transactions for any failed payments.
    • If you're using PayPal or another gateway, log in separately and confirm everything is working.

4. Meta Ads & Traffic Quality Issues

  • You’re using Meta ads, Instagram, and Facebook, which means your traffic might not be as high-intent as before.
  • Solution:
    • Look at Meta Ads Manager > Breakdown > Placement & Device to check where conversions are happening (or not).
    • If engagement is high but purchases are low, try retargeting warm leads (cart abandoners, site visitors) instead of cold audiences.
    • Also, check session duration in Shopify’s reports—if people are leaving too quickly, they might not be the right audience.

5. Competitor Pricing or Customer Hesitation

  • Maybe a competitor is running a discount, or people are hesitating on price.
  • Solution:
    • Try adding limited-time offers or a small discount pop-up for first-time visitors.
    • Install a cart abandonment email flow (Shopify > Marketing > Automations) to remind them to complete their purchase.

Next Steps

  • Step 1: Test checkout yourself & review failed payments.
  • Step 2: Check ad traffic quality in Meta Ads Manager.
  • Step 3: Run a checkout session recording (use Hotjar or Lucky Orange) to see where people drop off.
  • Step 4: Consider adjusting pricing or adding urgency-based offers.

If you need any other assistance, feel free to ask, and I will try my best to support you.
Best regards,
Daisy.
