I think a better quality control should be implemented on apps developper. There are two many junk and trash apps out there who don't deliver on their promises and want you to sign up even before testing out their product. It's a shame because it takes a while before finding the rare gem that actually works, then resign to do the tasks manually because it's so much easier.
Also, searching for answers online does not help either. On the plus side, the shopify support team is great and always hands on to assist with queries.
Hi @neva1102
I completely get where you're coming from, and this is a concern a lot of Shopify users share. It’s frustrating to sift through countless apps only to find that many don’t live up to their claims. Some developers prioritize getting users to sign up over delivering a product that genuinely solves problems. This not only wastes time but also makes it harder to trust new apps.
Here’s what I think Shopify (or even app developers themselves) could do to improve quality control:
Stricter App Review Process: Shopify could enforce a more rigorous vetting system before apps are allowed on the App Store. This might include thorough testing for functionality, user experience, and even proof that the app delivers the results it promises.
Mandatory Free Trials: Developers should provide trial periods so users can test the app fully before committing. This way, you know what you’re paying for, and it’s easier to assess if the app is worth the investment.
Enhanced User Feedback System: The App Store reviews could use more detailed categories, like specific functionality ratings, speed, and ease of use. Plus, verified user feedback should stand out more prominently.
Spotlight on Top-Performing Apps: Shopify could introduce curated lists that showcase apps consistently rated highly for quality, usability, and reliability. It would make it easier to discover the "rare gems."
Better Support from Developers: App developers need to invest more in clear documentation, accessible support, and responsive teams so users don’t feel stuck or forced to figure things out on their own.
I also agree with you that Shopify’s support team is a huge help when navigating these issues. They’re one of the best in the game for hands-on assistance, and that’s something Shopify users can rely on even when the app landscape feels overwhelming.
Here’s a quick tip for now: try to stick to apps with plenty of verified reviews, active updates, and clear support channels. You’ll save a lot of time avoiding untested or low-quality apps.
If you need any other assistance, feel free to reply and I will try my best to respond.
Best regards,
Daisy
