I am using the Grid theme from Pixel Union and get a "no image" icon for one of my collections on the all collections page. I created a new menu for my collections and followed the change the order of your collections instructions from Shopify and ran into this issue (link: https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/online-store/themes/themes-by-shopify/vintage-themes/customizing-...). Does someone know how I can fix this? Your help would be greatly appreciated!

The link to the problem page on my website is: https://seifenfeestore.de/collections

Many thanks in advance 🙂

Hey there, @DownUnder1996. Welcome to the Shopify Community! I appreciate you coming here today with your theme/collection situation. I'm happy to take some time to chat with you about this!

Thanks a bunch for the screenshots, and the link to your website! When I clicked the link to your page, it took me to a 404 error, so I didn't get to see the 'icon' for myself. Are you still trying to accomplish this ordered collection functionality? I'm happy to assist you as much as I can, if so!

I read through the document you were following along with. Did you end up making any changes to your theme coding? When I've seen this icon in the past, it's usually as a placeholder image for a collection that doesn't have a photo assigned to it. I would just doublecheck to make sure you have an image assigned to all of your collections.

When you have the chance, feel free to follow up with me here, and we can keep working together to get this working as needed.

Hi @Imogen thank you very much for your swift reply and for taking the time to support me!

I assigned a collection image on Shopify for this particular collection so it should display. Yes, I ended up making a tiny change in the theme coding as it was suggested in the Shopify manual. It is strange that it works just fine for all the other collections but not for the first one. It would be awesome if we could get this sorted out soon 🙂 Many thanks!

Hey again, @DownUnder1996! Thanks for getting back to me! Hope you're doing well today!

I was able to get access the page you linked above today when I went to check things out. It's almost as if there is some sort of invisible image that when clicked, loops back to the exact same page. This is making me wonder if we've somehow managed to loop this page itself as a navigation option on the page that it navigates to! If possible, can you send me a screenshot of your page setup that you did in your Navigation section of your admin? If it does turn out that we just created a loop, we can confirm that here and quickly and easily get this fixed.

Typically, Shopify Support isn't able to advise on coding changes, especially when they're related to third party themes like ones made by Pixel Union. Do you know the exact coding change you had made? If so, I'd love to just have it here for reference.

My current plan of action is this:

  • Get that screenshot from you with the navigation page setup to see if we looped things together. If it is looped, we should be able to fix that within the setup and then things should be a-okay!
  • If the page isn't looped, then we go back to looking at the coding change you made. We're want to have the change you made here for reference, so we know what was done.
  • If the coding appears to be having an impacting, we can reach out to the Live Shopify Support Team, and make them aware of things. From there, we can either address this in-house with our own theme specialists (usually not something we can do for third party themes, but we can sometimes!) OR we reach out to Pixel Union on your behalf to see if we can get them to advise on how to get this fixed up.

Whenever you get the chance, just follow up here with the requested info! We'll get this figure out, and figure out what the next best steps to take are!

Hey @Imogen! What an amazing support 👍 I highly appreciate the time you take to support me👌

I also clicked on the no image icon and it makes sense to me that I probably messed up the navigation...Please find attached a screenshot of my navigation menu in Shopify. I created a new navigation menu that links to the all collections page.

Regarding the change in code: All that I did was that I replaced the previous

{% for collection in collections %}

with

{% for link in linklists.all-collections.links %}
{% assign collection = link.object %}

in the collection-list.liquid file in the Grid Theme from Pixel Union (I attached a screenshot for further reference).

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you need any additional information from me 🙂

I am looking forward to hearing where I might have gone wrong (I bet it's the navigation menu).

Maybe here it links twice to the same "shop" page and therefore created the no image error?

Hello hello, @DownUnder1996! Hope you're doing well!

Thanks a bunch for all of the screenshots! The navigation menu ones are super helpful here. It looks like that icon (shows up as a blank space for me on the page) is meant to be representing a collection called 'Probiersets'. I have an idea that we should try here: Let's remove the 'Probiersets' collection from this menu, and then add it back to the menu. I have a feeling this will generate the image and collection title as expected.

Seems like a pretty simple solution, and I'm pretty confident that this may do the trick! Give it a try and let me know how it goes!

Hi @Imogen thank you very much for the proposed solution. I tried it out and unfortunately it is still displaying the no image icon. Do you have another idea that I can try?

Hey again, @DownUnder1996. Sorry for my delayed response! I was out of the office but I'm back now so I'm ready to continue lending a hand!

It's a bummer that the re-adding of the collection didn't seem to solve the issue. I was hoping that it would fresh the assets and allow things to appear as needed.

At this point, I'm thinking that the coding change absolutely has played a role in how things are appearing currently, and we're going to need to get you authenticated to fix the issue.

What I recommend now is that you reach out to our Live Support Team using this link, and let the advisor you connect with know about your issue. They'll either be able to get you help directly from our Theme Specialists, or they'll be able to reach out to the folks that developed your theme to get the code issue looked into.

I was hoping that we'd be able to get this resolved without authentication, but we'll need the developer's aid to make sure things appear as needed! Thanks for your patience in this situation, @DownUnder1996, and I know that once authenticated, things will be able to get sorted!

Hi again, @DownUnder1996. I'm so glad to hear that the Live Team is going to be assisting you with this! I'm just happy to see this get resolved for you more than anything else; I know how image uses like this can be a pain.

Reaching out to the team looks to be the best step to take here! I'm going to mark your most recent reply as the 'solution', so other users that may experience this issue can know where they need to go to get some help!

Your store looks great, by the way! I love your inclusions of an 'About Us' page, and your Blog! These are great ways to help build rapport and strong trust with your customer base. Good job on getting that stuff set up! A quick suggestion to further strengthen this brand trust with your customers is to consider using Shopify Inbox in your store! This is a Shopify made direct-messaging application you can add to your store! It would let customers contact you easily anytime that they have questions about your product or their orders! A direct messaging application also leads to higher conversion rates in stores, so I recommend taking a look!

It was great meeting you, and I wish you and your store all the best in the future! Just reach back out to us if you ever need anything!
