Should I include keywords in my product title for better SEO results?

I just made a new store after having made most of my products in Etsy before.  There I was putting keywords in the title for search purposes.  On Shopify it doesn't look very good to have the keywords in the title like this but I'm wondering if I should still do it for SEO purposes.  The keywords will show in the url and title which I know is much better for SEO.  Should I keep them in or is there a way that I could have more pretty titles and still have good SEO results:

Hi @FandomFlair !

That's a great question. There are three main places that you can add keywords to improve SEO without needing long product titles:

  • meta descriptions
  • ALT tags
  • a page’s body content

The storefront product title doesn't necessarily need to be full of keywords like Etsy. You can ensure they are present in your "Search engine listing" instead.

If you look at the product page from your Shopify admin, you can see the "Search engine listing" at the very bottom > then click "Edit". It is crucial that you include all the keywords you typically would showcase in the product title on Etsy within these fields:

With that being said, I encourage you to verify and submit your sitemap to search engines so that your website can be indexed along with those keywords.

I hope this helps! If you have any other questions, please let me know!

Cheers

Thank you for that info Holly.  I also have the Tags field set with lots of keywords.  I'm wondering if there's a way to have these be entered into these fields or the body automatically to help.

That's a great question. The product tags section is mostly used for product/order organization on our platform. However, if you put a lot of time in adding those tags and want to include them in your product descriptions, you could export the products in a CSV file to collect all the tags as raw data in a Numbers/Excel spreadsheet.

You can then copy the list of tags and work with an AI text generator like Chat GPT to generate product descriptions and/or meta descriptions that include all your desired keywords.

Hi @FandomFlair

One way to balance SEO and user experience is to use natural language in your product titles and include your target keywords near the beginning of the title. For example, instead of using the title "Taylor Swift Lover Album Cover T-Shirt | Red Album T-Shirt | Taylor Swift Merch", you could use the title "Taylor Swift Lover Album Cover T-Shirt | Red Album Merch". This title is more descriptive and user-friendly, while still including your target keywords.

Another way to improve your SEO without keyword-stuffing your product titles is to use relevant keywords in your product descriptions and meta descriptions.

I checked your comments and there are a few ways to automatically populate your Shopify product titles, tags, and descriptions with keywords which is Shopify SEO apps or hire a Shopify developer to create a custom script for you, or you can find a pre-made script online (this will require your coding knowledge) If you're not comfortable using a Shopify app or script, you need to manually populate your product titles, tags, and descriptions with keywords.

Hope it helps!
Garcia

Hi @FandomFlair ,

Balancing SEO with visually appealing titles on Shopify can be challenging. While keywords in your product titles are important for SEO, it's crucial to maintain a natural and engaging title for your customers. Consider integrating your primary keyword seamlessly into a title that also appeals to your target audience.

Hi.
Keywords can be written in the product title, but you need to need to be aware that high quality keywords should be read friendly in the sentence. Instead of stacking several keywords on the title or content, this will be counterproductive.

I think you should be very focused on the fact that keywords help with your website's SEO, and in fact they do.
We recommend the SEOAnt-AI SEO app, which is specifically for keywords and has an in-depth keyword research feature designed for it.
